GERMINATION
I would give zero stars, followed the instructions for planting that was listed on the bag and went above and beyond, watered for several days, it's been 14 days now and not one single seed has germinated of approximately 2k square feet I can't find even one blade of new grass I did contact the manufacturer through the Amazon return section, the company has returned the contact Email with a reference number, they want a whole list of information before they'll do a refund, I mean several Questions that require a return answer, one is a picture of the barcode on the bag ( will that got trashed the day I planted the seeds ) , I emailed them back and asked if they also wanted my first born child and my right nut,,, ridiculous, I told them to just keep the $30 and to keep their worthless products, too much of a hassle. Just go to tractor supply and get your seeds, but don't buy Pennington brandsUpdate 03/24/2025I suppose I'm gonna have to eat crow, I give it 5 stars,21 days later after planting and it appears that all of the seeds have germinated and looking very good. Have a good day

Easy and forgiving
The grass does what it's supposed to do. I did not follow the instructions at all and literally just tossed it by hand onto bare and rocky soil. Took about 3 weeks to notice any growth but it's still going. Slow growth though but given the soil conditions, it's better than expected.

Best for shaded backyards
This is magic!! It grew so quickly!! I have a highly shaded backyard that barely gets sunshine and this grass has thrived. I get so many compliments from neighbors. It’s a very pretty green color. I’m so happy with the results. And the dogs are big fans too!

Not good results
Well, I followed the instructions on the package.Only a 8x10 ft area heavy shade. Tilled the soil to about 4 inches deep and raked smooth removing all clods and lumps. Spread by hand heavily. Regularly watered, never let the soil dry out. About 33% of the seed sprouted, looks pretty sparse. I can't believe that the seed is not good, there are too many great reviews on it. I do (now) notice that the website indicates sandy soil, my soil is the midwest regular "dirt". The rest of my lawn is like golf-turf thick, really beautiful.Reading reviews, seems as if this seed does better in the South than in the northern climate/soil. But...just a guess.

My luck may be bad watering in Florida heat wave.
There has been no germination or growth for the "Shade" version despite over seven days of watering. The only downside is that it has been extremely hot and humid, which may have caused the water to dry up too quickly. I've decided to give the "Sun and Shade" version a chance. I might be wasting my money since it's the most affordable option.Fortunately, we have rain predicted for this week, the "Shade" version doesn't seem to work anymore with the rain. If the "Sun and Shade" version doesn't work, I'll return the remaining contents to Amazon.

Worked like a charm, pay attention to the season before you seed
I'm planting this in May in GA which is well past when I should be for this grass seed but I have had good success with the first seeding sprouting and continuing to grow. In deep shade, no less! Also, in areas that get a little sun during the day but not much. The ground has been moist without me having to do much the first few days (not ideal for seed but it was not in a place where it was going to runoff). I still have some of this left and will do a second spread of it soon. If what has sprouted just as of now continues to thrive, I will buy more for the fall. Honestly I don't know why anyone would have issues with this seed. I did nothing to prepare the ground, which was sandy, deeply shady, bare areas.

Fantastic Grass Seed for Shady Areas!
I absolutely love this dense fescue shade blend! It grows fast with a high germination rate, and it couldn’t be easier to apply. I just rake the loose dirt, sprinkle it in, protect the area, and give it plenty of water for a couple of weeks. Sure enough, it springs up beautifully, and the patches I’ve filled have stayed consistent season after season. I even scatter it in spots where the grass is a bit thinner, and it always rebounds well, giving my lawn a lush and healthy look. I really appreciate how well it performs in the shaded areas of my Southern California yard. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with shade challenges!
