Raspberry Pi Super Cluster

Fun projects for your extra Raspberry Pi's
I have a number of Raspberry Pi's sitting around from various projects I have experimented with in the past. I came across this book on building a cluster using two Raspberry Pi's.The book guides you though MPI (Message Passing Interface) and Hadoop and provides novices with a good guide for getting started. As well as software development aspects there are some fun little side projects like building your own stackable case using Lego's. There is also an interesting introduction to super computing to give you a background to the field.Overall a great introduction to parallel computing aimed at the novice.

Practically Useless
For me, this book has no real value.Several months ago, I bought several blade servers, and have been trying to get them to function as a cluster. The goal has been to write my programs in Fortran, which, based on the newest 2018 standard, offers tools for extensive parallel computing. My programs have been written, and will work on a single computer. I bought this book, with the hope of gaining some insight on how to set up my servers as a cluster. It's true that my servers aren't Raspberry Pis, but they do run Linux. I figured that, maybe, this book could offer something that would, at least, point me in the right direction. Unfortunately, it offers absolutely no insight, whatsoever. If you're like me, and you want to run Fortran 2018 programs, then don't expect this book to help you. Before buying it, I read through the table of contents. Towards the end, it mentions Fortran; which gave my a glimmer of hope. Don't be fooled. All of the Fortran examples are based on old versions of Fortran, which don't offer parallel support, like coarrays.I have since learned of an open source project called Rocks. Rocks is a software package that is designed to set up a cluster. Ultimately, it's what I've used in order to set up my cluster. Now, the only thing I use this book for, is to prop up my laptop. It's about a quarter of an inch thick, and the new battery, that I bought for my laptop, is a bit oversized; physically. So, I use this book to prop up the back end of my laptop, so that it will remain flat. For me, that's all this book is good for.

Accurate and Detailed Guide
My students build the basic Super Cluster detailed here, and went on to add a Western Digital USB hard drive, and an associated 4-Pi stack. This guide was accurate and Methodical.

It could be little more easier to understand for the people who do not have computer networking knowledge.

Not worth it.
Not worth it. Download ebook. Most of it is just basic stuff that can be found on raspberry pi forums and on stackexhange
