Jaco Pastorius - The Greatest Jazz-Fusion Bass Player

Okay, first--you have to have skills needed to not only read music and tab, but the dexterity and articulation needed to tackle material other than the most basic bass lines. Secondly, you will need the CD's or source material needed to pick up on the nuances that Jaco employs through dynamics, touch and feeling. Thirdly -- you will need time. Acquaint yourself with the music then start hitting the book. Not wanting to play anything note for note like some sort of automotron, I choose rather to go for the feel. Afterall, can one really achieve each individual percussive attack or note? I hope not! If you can then buy an old beater Fender Fretless, drop in .9mf Cap, make sure the pickups supply the necessary Low, Mids and Trebs... change your roto-sounds weekly pick up an acoustic 360 amp and go for it. If not... go for the feel. The selections are good and cover a wide range of material and styles. It is enjoyable to get inside the music a bit.

There was the bass guitar before and after Jaco Pastorius. His was a melodic voice that soared and wailed. It would bend around a melody complementing soothing and ending in a drawn out whisper as it embraced the major thesis.Before him there was the unique heavy bass of a Tim Bogart or the syncopated thud pop of a Stanley Clark but Jaco Pastorius gave the bass guitar wings to fly. And in his hands it flew to new heights never imagined.

The key songs I know of and have heard by Jaco. The tabs will help me get started, but I expect to get at least a couple of them down over time. There are several multiple page songs, encouraging one to memorize the music (ok, so this will be a challenge for me, but I love the sound of his music).

This book only contains 14 printed works of Jaco Pastorius from Weather Report with bass legend. These works from Jaco Pastorius contain many Techniques which for me both inspirational and challenging and will take many years to learn and master. While the text can be resized to make it easy to read, the actual music content is limited on the resize. Very difficult to read at times even on a larger screen.

The transcriptions are extremely accurate. I highly recommend it.

Transcriptions of Weather Report Jaco with Tab - numerous errors in the transcribing are problematic but more problematic is the absence of lead sheets to go along with the bass parts; ok but should be so much better.......

Another lost artist

Jaco ist einer der auffälligsten Bassisten des funky Jazz. Wirkt er mit, erkennt man ihn sofort. Sein Sound und seine rhythmische Präsenz sind einzigartig und bis heute nicht übertroffen.

Super Notenmaterial! Alles schön ausgeschrieben als Noten und als TABs.Mit viel Übung kann man die Sachen von Jaco nachspielen bzw. einige Tricks (harmonisch, Skalen, etc) herauspicken.Macht Spaß mit diesen Noten zu üben.
