great buy
It's great buy for storing pickles and reminds me of when my mummy would use it when I was a kid. The quality of the jar is good. However I did not like the lid, it looks flimsy compared to the container.

Nice Shape but no glazing on the lid mating surfaces
I like the shape of this Jar. There's no lip inside the top to catch food you can't see. There are a few irregularities, but it's a ceramic jar and I expect that. What I didn't expect was that the lid mating surfaces, at the top of the jar and around the mating ring of the lid, are not glazed. So the jar has limited value in terms of staining the unglazed surfaces. I got this jar for sourdough starter, but the dough would get into the ceramic pores of the unglazed surfaces and be impossible to clean out. Even as a pickle jar, the juice would soak into the pores and stain the surface. I think it's a great little jar maybe for dry goods, though.

I hate pickles, but I love this pickle jar.
For a large ceramic jar this is surprisingly lightweight. The glaze job on the outside is very pretty, just like in the picture, two-tone tan/brown. The inside is nicely glazed as well, but the ledge where the lid sits on the jar is an unglazed surface - probably to help them keep air from moving around in/out?I hate pickles. I am NOT a pickle guy. And this is kind of weird, as the child of New York Jews, but the acid/vinegar is just too much for me. I'm using this jar in my workshop instead to hold pliers and screwdrivers, because it's exactly the right size for the screwdrivers to stand up in and the pliers to straddle the wall in a full circle. I know, it's not what pickle jars are supposed to be for, but it's a REALLY NICE jar and I'm allowed to use it however I want! (I did put a piece of felt inside the bottom so a screwdriver wouldn't accidentally do damage)Very happy with this item, it looks and feels great. There's even a really pleasing sound when you put the lid on it, somehow nostalgic I think. Anyhow, full marks from me on this item!
