For those of you using a Cintiq, is there enough freedom of tension to move it around yet still maintain enough strength for it to stay put while you're drawing on it?

Most definitely! I use a Cintiq for work and it holds up perfectly. A lot of maneuverability which is a plus as I have an electronic adjustable desk that I use for standing and sitting at. My suggestion would be to find a position that’s right for you and lock it there as I have found if there isn’t enough tension then I tend to lose my comfortable position. Hope that helps.

Can you mount a 27" LCD monitor that weighs under 10 lbs? Does 27" and 24" use the same mounting pattern on the back of the LCD?

I have a 27" monitor attached to the swing arm. Don't know what it weighs. But that's not the problem. The problem is how you are securing the arm. Make sure it is a very robust connection. And the mounting pattern should be the same. They are called VESA mounts. Look on the back of the monitor. Not all monitors have them.

My daughter is bedbound. Can I attach the arm to a sturdy bedside stand and adjust the monitor so she can see it when she is lying flat on her back?

I recommend you try using this arm with the "Ergotron Notebook Arm Mount Tray" attached to it. I recommend this because a laptop's screen can be tilted through a large range. Thus, there's a good chance that the combination of the arm and tray will let your daughter tilt the laptop screen (and possibly the keyboard) to a position that's comfortable. If it turns out that the screen is in a good position but not the laptop's keyboard, get a stand-alone keyboard with USB plug. Additionally, get her a trackball so she doesn't have to use the touch pad on the laptop. Note: you may have to also add the "Ergotron 45-289-026 Mounting Extension" to this whole setup in order to reach the position she needs it to be in, but I don't know for sure. If it were me, I'd order the extension just to be safe. One more thing... yes, this system works very well when attached to a sturdy night stand or side table. I recommend you bolt the Ergotron setup directly to the tabletop near the corner that's closest to the bed, and closest to her feet as this will give the laptop the best chance of reaching your daughter.I mention all of this because I have severe back injuries and I am sometimes bedridden for days. I have an Ergotron setup similar to what I describe above next to my Zero Gravity lounge chair in the living room, and I love the combination! I've been using it since 2014, and I only wish I had purchased it sooner.In closing, I will say that I do NOT work for Ergotron, and I am in no way affiliated with them. will tis mount on my fireplace mantle for a 42 inch tv to tilt and swivel

Unless your TV is one of those super thin oleds or under 27 pounds, this is doubtful. Fireplace? Keep in mind the clamp is max bite width of 2.4 inches. The bolt mount included only goes up to roughly 80-85mm (Taking mounting space into the math) You might be looking more ideally at the Ergotron MX arm with wall mounting if you still want the full range of motion like this one. Otherwise I'd suggest looking at their other arm types :) Hope this helps.
