This Japanese sickle is sharp enough for immediate use. The blade is wellrivetted to the handle.

I am writing this review after purchasing for full price via Amazon. In return, I am reviewing this product. I nor any of my family are in any way connected to or work for any associated companies.The zelin Clearing Sickle,Steel Grass Sickle,Manganese Steel Blade/Hardwood Handle is a nice attractive product that appears to be well constructed. It arrived on time and in good condition. The surprise is that it extremely sharp, yet the blade is a little to thin for its own safety. It was purchased to cut small branches and banana leaves. Only the smallest branches were able to be cut on hard wood trees, the banana trees were no match for this sickle. The blade bent at the connection point and it might not last and extended period of time.

I'm spoiled when it comes to sickles. I've had an inexpensive Japanese sickle I've used for 20+ years that I had to retire because the handle started to break. The Zelin sickle is my 4th Chinese sickle that has had short lived usefulness before breaking down. This Zelin sickle died during its 1st use. The others at least lasted a few uses.I believe part of the problem is the blades are tempered too hard making the metal brittle. Thus, when shaving branches from a bamboo stalk, the edge starts to break off over time. It probably would have been fine if I was only cutting grass or soft vegetation.The blade did arrive bent distinctly to the left with a slight counter-clockwise twist. Easy to fix with a vise but unfortunately boded poorly of what was to come. The search for an adequate sickle goes on.

I use this knife to help with weed removing, and at the first use, the front point already stuck and broken in the vine of weed. but I get what I paid for. I will consider this knife as disposable.
