Update Jun 2024: So the seal lasted some 7 years. I thought I heard cycling in middle of the night, looked the next day, and there were three "bb's" on it. An extra 7 yr old replacement was installed and is working fine. Update Sep 2022: The 2018 seal is still working fine. I've been careful not to put cleaners into the tank. Update Nov 2020: So, 2 1/2 yrs later, the seal I bought in 2018 still is working well. I'm glad folks found below helpful. This seal worked to stop what I call cycling (others call it ghosting) on my 4 yr old Kohler dual flush toilet -- where some water silently leaks out of the tank and, after a few minutes, the tank refills to full. If your tank has a white canister in the middle, with tabs at the bottom allowing you to vertically pull it out (vs the canister model which twists out), this seal is a great candidate as a fix. And as others have mentioned below, my old seal had several hard bumps, each the size of 1/4 to 3 BB's -- I'm sure one or more sitting on the plastic pipe fitting were the source of the leak. The main thing I want to add is that the Kohler web site has tools to determine the model toilet and then spec sheets with exploded parts diagrams of the tank workings. Look at the toilet spec sheets closely -- you may see different part nos for the tank and bowl on the sheet. If you can't get to the diagram of the parts, try googling your tank model number and looking for the diagram via the tank data sheet (not easy to get to except via google). And, all else failing, Kohler's customer service is very helpful/responsive. Note also that some tanks allow for upgrade to the newer twist-on canister (a $65 part), but the upgrade requires removal of the tank. Before paying for the whole, updated canister service set and hassle of installing it ... if you have the old style with removal tabs ... definitely first try replacement of just this 1131496 seal. (The newer canister has a different seal at a different location.) All of above will be clearer if you pull the diagram(s) from the Kohler site. Above said, if you do have the pop out canister, it's very easy to use the two tabs to pull it out -- then pull off the old seal, stretch on the new, and to pop the canister back in.

just what i need to stop a toilet tank from losing water. Install was very easy, the hard part for me was diagnosing the issue myself, but took a chance by ordering this relatively cheap part.

Quick and inexpensive fix for leaking toilets. Installation takes less than 2 minutes. This is always the first thing I try when I hear a toilet in my house occasionally filling when not in use. Only once out of about 10 times it did not resolve the issue. But for the cost and speed of installation it is always worth trying first.
