Delicious and innovative recipes, for everyday life.
I enthusiastically began cooking from this as soon as it arrived - A Modern Way to Eat being one of my favourite cookbooks ever so my expectations for the sequel were high. I have not been disappointed so far. It's a beautiful book, wonderfully photographed and laid out and the writing alongside each recipe is very warm and engaging. I agree that the timings beside each recipe are really a rough guide. Cooking is part of my everyday, so timings aren't really an issue for me, but this might be useful for people who are more limited on timeframes. I loved the additional suggestions for quick meal ideas set out in table format that Anna provided in her last book, and this one is no exception. I would defy anyone to run out of ideas for meals with this book - there are just so many recipes and ideas. Anna's balance of flavour and texture is just exceptional, and her recipes have transformed my everyday vegetarian cooking. As with the previous book, the savoury recipes are far more successful than the sweet ones. I am a fairly experienced cook, and I've had some trouble with the carrot cake flapjacks - they just fell to pieces when I tried to cut them up (after leaving to cool overnight). The quinoa / squash / feta fritters are delicious, but again, even when the mix is chilled its hard to get them to stay together in the pan. After wrangling a few in the frying pan, I baked them, and it gave me a great outcome (without the time consuming nature of frying in batches). So there's a few recipes I need to try again to get them to work better. I'm blaming my skill level here rather than lack of testing. Overall I feel that this is *the* book to buy if you want to eat more vegetable centred meals that are colourful, delicious and most of all interesting. It's certainly not a book that will sit on your shelf gathering dust. Thank you Anna!

Brilliant book - we now cook more recipes from this ...
Brilliant book - we now cook more recipes from this book than any other. It makes every meal super interesting and feel like you are eating out a great restaurant. Just one warning, meals take a lot longer to prepare than the book suggests, maybe once you've made them a few times but with so many ingredients it can take twice as long - but well worth it!! Perfect for vegetarians but also easy to add a bit of meat to many of the dishes if you are that way inclined!

Everything made fresh in the kitchen
An excellent cookery book. Anna Jones has done an excellent job and the recipes are amazing. I also sent this book to my daughter-in-law in the States and she really likes it too. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to eat like our grandparents did, cooking food that is fresh with no additives or colourings or preservatives. Everything home-made. What could be better than that for the health and well-being of our children?!
