TL;DR - Works for face with no white tint, best use for humid weather
I needed a moisturizing sunscreen for daily facial use that my husband and I can both use. I tried this product, and liked it enough to keep using it regularly. I also use the Moisture Defense SPF 50 (blue tube) from MDSolarSciences, which is a little more moisturizing but can be greasy. Both are kinda spendy, but because it's a 4oz tube the price per ounce ends up being comparable to other facial products. (This review is similar for either product, and is cross-posted.)This sunscreen looks and feels fairly thick, with an off-white/cream tint. The ceramides and silicones give it a lot of slip on the skin, but it does dry to a matte finish. It blends quite well for fair to medium skin tones, and works under a powder or liquid foundation. It isn't moisturizing enough to use on its own (I have combination/oily skin, and my husband's is normal/dry) - the Moisture Defense is better in that regard. I tend to use the Moisture Defense in winter when it's less humid, and the Mineral Creme in the summer when it's more humid. You should use an antioxidant-rich, oil-free, silicone-free moisturizer as a base layer, and here's why: 1) Antioxidants will boost the SPF power of your sunscreen, 2) Oil is the enemy of mineral sunscreens, 3) This sunscreen has a lot of silicones already and it doesn't set well over a first layer of silicones IME. (I've been using Trader Joe's Antioxidant Moisturizer plus Alpha Skin Care Nourishing Eye Cream, and it works pretty well). This brand takes a good five minutes to dry/set completely, but then I can apply makeup over the top. I use a powder foundation, which helps the sunscreen set. If you use a liquid foundation, apply it lightly - if you rub too much you'll disturb your sunscreen layer. Don't apply the sunscreen to the eyelash line, that'll help eye makeup stay in place. Also, don't get the sunscreen on your eyelashes if you plan to apply mascara, and use a powder foundation before a brow pencil.Zinc sunscreen can be drying, so you really do need to clean it off at the end of the day and only oil-cleansing works on mineral sunscreen. I like to use a warm microfiber washcloth to rinse, or sometimes a face wash (aka double-cleansing). Definitely apply a moisturizer or lotion afterward.Overall it's more work than using a chemical sunscreen but I think it's worth it. This product is one of the better ones I've tried for facial use - it has a higher percentage of zinc, dries pretty clear, sets well in humid conditions, and comes at a pretty good price per ounce.

Recommend for oily/combo skin
This sunscreen is amazing! It is the first facial sunscreen that has not broken me out or made my eyes burn. Bonus, it has zinc oxide which is dermatologist recommended to prevent skin cancer. I have fair-light skin, and a history of acne, and this sunscreen gives me the protection I need while not breaking me out which is wonderful! Of course it has a slight white hue - that is the zinc. It is what it is! Sunscreen that does not give a white hue does not have the recommended amount of zinc and probably is not the best to use for protection. It has a matte texture, too, so it is great for oily or combo skin types. If you have dry skin, I wouldn't recommend this or any product that clearly states it is matte... just read the label and address your own skin type, dont blindly buy sunscreen or any face product.Oh, on top of it not breaking me out, it goes on nice a smooth and does have a blurring effect which is great if you're concerned about textured skin or fine lines. It also wears very nicely underneath my foundation, almost like a primer. That is probably the dimethicone so just be aware of that should you have any need or desire to avoid silicones.I've been getting a lot of compliments lately on my skin, and the only thing I've changed is using this sunscreen. I am just so glad to have found a quality sunscreen that does not make my face break out and like an oil slick.

Not that great
I know this has gotten great reviews (oddly), but I wanted to let others know that if they have any flaky areas on their face, this sunscreen will accentuate them like crazy. It has a lot of silicones, so it acts more like a primer than a sunscreen, which is good in that it is not greasy, but bad in that it doesn't really take care of dry patches at all. It also does not fully blend in without a lot of rubbing, which leaves white patches in certain areas. I look like I have a dry layer of rice powder haphazardly applied to my face. You would literally have to have completely perfect skin and rub vigorously for this to work! No thanks.I have purchased too many sunscreens for my extremely sensitive skin to even mention within the last year, and I have yet to find one that is absolutely amazing. This one is going into my sunscreen graveyard box unfortunately.

Love this creme!
I love the feel of this mineral creme sunscreen on my face! It goes on a bit white, but it dries to a translucent, matte, velvety finish. I made the mistake of not letting it dry enough prior to applying eyeshadow on my first use, so the makeup didn't go on well at all. It also has the highest level of zinc oxide (17%) in a facial sunscreen compared to any other brands I've researched, so that's a definite win for someone like me who's terrified of the sun due to being riddled with melasma.

Totally worth the money, best facial sunblock I have used
I am an avid user of sunblock and use the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) sunblock guide to determine the best quality sunblock. MDSolarSciences is definitely on the expensive side of sunblock but it is by far the best facial sunblock I have used (and I have used over 10+ brands over the past few years!). I received a sample in a Nordstrom order and was very surprised by how smooth it goes on, the fact that it doesn't leave any white residue, and feels really good on your face (not too oily and doesn't clog your pores). When I went to EWG to see if it actually is a good sunblock, I was happy to find that it works great--fantastic balance between UVA/UVB protection, no nano-particles, etc. The tube lasts forever so it's definitely worth the buy (I've been using my 1.7 oz for about 6 months now and I think it's probably got at least another half a month left in its life just to give you an idea of how long a tube lasts--I apply very liberally on my face every day).
