Shark in the Dark

Interesting story for 5 and 8 years old kids, works really good for bed time reading

As a teacher of English, I use this book with my pupils and they love it because it glows in the dark! My nephew also loves it!

I've been using Nick Sharratt's Shark in the Park in preschool story time for years, yet I never knew there was a sequel! It's hard to live up to a book as great as Shark in the Park, but this one comes pretty darn close. I was skeptical after a couple of reads, as I felt the rhyming seemed a bit off and wondered if the kids would understand the page describing the seagull having his "tea". After a week of using this book in story time for kids ages 3-5, I am convinced that this book is every bit as good as the first. The rhymes that seemed a bit off when reading this to myself, smoothed out beautifully when I read them aloud, and frankly no one thought twice about the seagull and his tea. What they did do is use their imaginary telescopes and search for sharks, they laughed at the giant ice cream and felt that they were in on a secret at the end when they could all easily see the shark outside Timothy's window. Shark in the Dark is a fine story time read, and I'm glad I finally happened upon it! This is an enthusiastic recommend for story time, classroom, or personal collections. You don't need to be a shark fan to enjoy this author's sense of whimsy and the same spot on sense of pacing and humor that was present in the original. Great fun!
