Well made
Just received the unit and have assembled and installed. It is very sturdy and handles tie downs without warping the metal.

Sturdy and good quality
Just took our first family camping trip to the white mountains and used this basket. It was sturdy and easy to flip into the up position once we got to camp and unloaded. It fit loads of gear and secured easily with bungy cords. Highly recommend!

Does Not Accommodate 2 Bikes
Bought this for a camping trip. Got everything loaded up, went to put the two bikes on last….they do not fit! We had two mountain bikes (men’s small/women’s large) it didn’t matter how we angled them/changed positions, we could not fit them both on the bike rack in the cradles. We had to strap one bike down on the top of the cargo rack (above totes and a large cooler) to transport. Not the convenience I was looking for and an extra dose of stress fearing it would fall off when hitting big bumps and potholes on the road. Would recommend the cargo part of this, but not the bike rack for 2 bikes.

Mountain Bikes Beware!!!
This bike rack is zero starts, not intended for mountain bikes or any other bikes that have a frame that is oblong, rectangle, etc. This is for bikes that have frames that are round ONLY. The clamps will not fit correctly and will come loose. It will also scratch the heck out of your frame. No matter how tight you make the bar, it will come loose and cause further damage. As long as the cotter pin stays intact, it wont fall off, but still loose. As far as the carrier, I gave it 1 star only due to bike rack. I like the carrier and have no complaints on that, only the bike rack. I will use the carrier and try to find a way to modify the rack so it works as well. In my opinion, find another supplier to but from.

Rusting after one rain shower. UPDATE: A weld broke, see review update, loses one star
We really love the idea of a carrier and bike rack in one. It's perfect for carrying campfire wood outside of the vehicle, and our two bikes. It's very sturdily made, and strong. It's easy to assemble, easy to fold up when not using. However, I noticed when assembling, that in a couple spots, the "coating" or paint(?) had come off so I touched it up with some black Rustoleum. That night we had a light rain. The next day when packing for our first trip I was very dismayed to see "surface" rust forming along the inside edges of the basket, and inside the bike rack tube.We loaded it up with two totes full of wood and our two bikes and went camping for a week. The carrier and rack worked great.UPDATE: Well, it's now early November and we have used this carrier since June 25. Overall we love the carrier except for a few irritations:1. The rust mentioned in my initial review. It's annoying. It's mainly surface rust, nothing serious, and the carrier is strong. Really strong. It holds a TON of firewood and our bikes no problem.2. The design of the bike rack portion isn't the greatest.First: it comes in two sections, and they bolt together. However, no matter how hard you tighten them, they loosen up, and the sections wiggle around, which allows the bikes to wiggle around while driving. I finally solved this "problem" by adding some thin shims between the sections so that they do tighten up.Second: the way that the bike carrier bolts onto the basket isn't the best. It also comes loose while driving, allowing the bikes to bounce around. They cannot come off, they just bounce. One SERIOUS note: when getting ready for a trip in August I noticed that the top weld that holds the threaded portion that the bike rack bolts onto broke, leaving only one small spot weld on the bottom of the threaded insert. If that bottom weld had also broken, you would not be able to remove the bike rack, because the threads of the insert would just spin. Thankfully I caught it in time and took it to a local shop where they re-welded it securely. It's NEVER going to break again, and I can REALLY tighten it down better. So, my recommendation to the company is to weld this section much more securely, and instead of the bolt partially threading in, have the bolt thread go all the way thru, maybe even long enough to be able to put a nut on the other side to keep it from loosening up.3. I added some reflective tape strips to the carrier for safety. This adds to the single reflector that is included. (see photo)As I said, overall we really love this carrier. It really does the job despite it's shortcomings. I did bring it down a star because of the broken weld. I look forward to next years travels with it!P.S. I had a local metal shop make a piece to allow me to use just the bike rack without the carrier basket. Too bad they don't include one with the kit.

Not user-friendly
I would not say I’m the strongest person on the planet but still, this is heavy and awkward. Why does a ball hitch attach with just a peg and this thing requires you to screw in a bolt for what feels like hours. Is mine made poorly? I would think I could screw in the bolt by hand, but my husband had it use a wrench for each turn on a three inch thread. Took for EVER to get on and off…
