Easy to apply and protects the books well
I got this because my kids are hard on their books, with most covers bent or ripped on the first reading, which is incredibly frustrating to me. We recently bought a series of very fat books, and these always take the biggest hit abuse-wise, so I decided to get this Demco laminate, and I've been very pleased with this product. So far I have wrapped the covers of 15 books and still have a lot of the roll left.Pros:- Film is repositionable, without visible traces so far- The square cutting guides on the protective paper make it easy to cut straight lines & measure how much film you'll need for a specific book.- The protective paper has a stripe along one edge that lets you peel the film off easily and have something to hold onto as you position it.- Covers feel very sturdy and books look like new even after my kids read them.Cons:Film is not crystal clear. It's not enough to bother me, and from a distance you can't really tell, but on close inspection it is noticeable, so figured I'd mention it.I honestly can't think of other cons. It does what it should, doesn't stink, is easy to work with and looks good.Tips to help with application:- Make sure you have a clear, lint-free surface to work on.- Wipe down the outside of the book with a lint-free rag before applying the film to grab any dust particles.- After I peel off the protective cover, I slip it underneath the film with the sticky side up and use the grid to center/align my book in the right place.- Once the spine is in place, I slowly put the cover on using a bone folder. It says to roll one cover down and then the other, but every time I tried that I got tons of bubbles, so I do it the other way.- Don't be afraid to reposition on a glossy surface. If you get bubbles, just pull up the edge and go slower when you put it back down.- A bone folder is great for smoothing it down without bubbles.- When I cut off the 45 degrees on the corners I immediately put the extra film on the inside cover of that same corner, which prevents waste and also provides extra support for the corner.- If you find a bubble after you've already wrapped the edges and can't reposition it anymore, prick it with a pin and push the air out the hole. If you use a small, sharp pin then it won't be noticeable at all.
