Employing the same ribcage reinforcements for climbing precision as its cousin, the Crux Canvas is a more breathable version of the suede leather Crux approach shoe, and excels in warmer conditions thanks to the canvas upper material. Like the regular Crux, lacing begins at the toe for snug fit, and the low profile frame make it utterly stable in technical terrain. Microporous EVA provides cushion for long hours in the hills while toe randing rounds out the protective qualities. Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA, a muti-generational, family-owned business whose headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in the same region of northern Italy where it was founded in 1938. SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

Great shoe will buy more. First set of Scarpa's
The shoe size is right on. Its light weight and has a great feel. Comfortable and certainly designed for the outdoors. I think it will last me a few seasons. It will last an office rat longer. The shoes comes up to just below my ankle - laces are excellent and hold a knot even while scooting around outside. Great summer shoe.Material is sturdy. Seems to do fine with dirt and water - vibram sole rocks as usual. Feel confident on any surface.

Pretty good.
I have had several Scarpa products over the years. My all time favorites are the Scarpa Mojitos, for fit, however the nice thing about the Crux are that they have a thicker sole. (The Mojitos are great for dirt and sand, not rocks). These shoes have a nice thicker sole so they are more appropriate for a more rocky soil, and mountain trails. The fit is good, lacing is easy enough, and support is good as well. Why only a 4? The right shoe developed a problem with the inner liner, which may or may not be covered under warranty. Since shipping has to be paid twice, the price of possible repair and shipping is not relative to the shoe.Since the Amazon price is so good, if nothing goes wrong with your shoes, you have a 5 star, otherwise you will have to decide if it is worth it. FYI, as an alternative for this shoe have a look at the Salewa Mountain hiker. (great fit, just as the Mojitos, however with an ever thicker sole than the Crux)Enjoy.

these shoes rock!!!!!
I tried these shoes on for the first time and just wore them for about half an hour and thought they felt a bit tight .A few days later i tried them on again and found them to be 'comfy ,snugg' and wore them for the day .I have worn these for the last few days for up to 10 hours just in general and found them to fit like a glove.very good grip in the wet and i love the idea of recycling items to make these shoes .Its not like i am rushing to take them off .......im thinking that maybe one pair just isnt enough.look good with most casual clothing as well which helps.I have worn,merrells,tevas,hi-tec,saloms and berghaus heaps and these are by-far the most comfortable shoes to date and the size was just right .will see how they go in the next few months as im pretty hard on boots and shoes .

Great approach shoe
This shoe is lightweight for a full approach shoe with a vibram sole. I would say that it is roughly the weight of a pair of running shoes (not ultra light runners..). This will be my goto approach shoe for taking up big climbs that require hike downs. Great construction and fit.. I have a wide foot and this is one of those rare shoes that will work for a range of foot sizes. I usually am a 9.5 and sometimes a 9.0 US and the 43.5 is perfect.

Fatal flaw kills this otherwise perfect shoe
These shoes are deserving of 5 stars, but fall to 2 stars because of two major flaws.Pros:* The rubber on the soles grabs rock better than any non-technical shoe I've ever worn. The grip almost gives me too much confidence at times as I take steps in places with these shoes that I would consider foolish in any other shoe.* The to-the-toe lacing makes this shoe fit amazingly. In fact, I've found that with a quick change in the lacing patterns, I can dial in specific fits for ascending and descending.* They look amazing!Cons:* The tongue is not gusseted. No matter how tightly I tie them, rocks and other debris find their way in through the front of the shoe. All hiking shoes are more prone to rocks and trail debris than boots because of their lower opening, but these are the most debris prone shoes I've ever worn. They require frequent emptying. It surprises me that Scarpa overlooked this detail.* I wear custom orthotics for my severely flat feet (severe enough to make even podiatrists say "wow, those are flat feet"). In approximately 70 miles of hiking the orthotics have worn dime-sized holes into the shoes' insteps. In all the years I've worn orthotics this is the first time this has happened. One theory is that the excessive debris getting past the tongue has acted as an abrasive between the orthotic and the shoe material. Regardless of how the rapid wear happened it is still unacceptable. These shoes are no longer trail worthy after only a few months and 3 overnight backcountry trips.

Arch support is the biggest problem with these shoes. ...
Arch support is the biggest problem with these shoes. If you're on your feet for any period of time, you'll feel it in your arches -- and I've not had that problem with any other type of shoes I own.

Nice but heavy & dry slowly.
I used these for a week of wet canyoneering in Zion. They worked pretty well. They protect the feet well & had grip as expected of an approach shoe. Grip seemed to get better after a couple of days, especially in the wet. They still slip on slime & loose sand, but probably any shoe would. They feel weird walking on smooth ground, like a sock is bunched up. I think it is because of a groove in the sole which causes them to flex more in one spot. It is not terrible & I don't usually notice in rough terrain.Sized tight, I do not find them very comfortable, but they are ok. If sized looser like a normal shoe they would be reasonably comfortable, but still not as comfortable as my 5.10 guide tennies. My feet are wide at the toes & low volume (like a duck). The toebox is decent width. They are secure, with no heel lift. Much better than the Salewa's I tried, which had terrible heel lift no matter how tight I fit them. They are much heavier than my trail runners & my guide tennie approach shoes. I bought the canvas version so they could get wet. They work fine in the wet, but they take forever to dry. In the extreme low humidity of Zion, they may be dry the next day if they sit in the sun for the evening. In Texas, which still has fairly low humidity, they took several days & several changes of newspaper stuffed in them to dry.
