She lied throughout the book
The author kept comparing herself to the worst of mothers to show how great she was. Now we know everything in this book is a lie. The adopted mother told her husband after 3 years I’m not dealing with her anymore and finally divorced him and has not seen Dani almost 4 years. Look up Dani’s updated story “The girl in the window 10 years later. Poor Dani is in a group home now and the only cost she gets is from her adoptive father maybe once a month. This book is a fairytale because her real life is horror story. This author makes me sick that she promised to take care of Dani and left her .

Heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting
My mom heard about Dani's Story, and knew that she had to read about Dani's transformation from a neglected, abused child to one with a family that adores her. I was lucky enough to borrow my mom's copy of the book after she finished it. Having just read the David Pelzer books (A Child Called It, The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave), I was ready for another moving story.Dani's Story is heartbreaking, but ultimately uplifting. It is told from the adoptive parents' point of view, so it was a little less personal than the first-person narrative in the David Pelzer books. I have to say that I did miss the personal narrative I loved in David Pelzer's books. The Lierows take the reader through their journey to adopt, starting with their decision to adopt a child, ending after they have finally welcomed Dani into their home. Some of the bureaucratic red tape regarding the adoption process got repetitive and slowed down the story. But, I understand why it was included---that's really how things work in the process of adoption. What Dani endures for her first seven years was horrific. The Lierows learn the details of her abuse from Dani's case worker. They are stunned at how she lived until she was finally rescued from her birth mother's home. It really was unbelievable, to think that a mother could do that to her child. Being a new mother myself, this part of the story really hit home with me.Much of the story focuses on Dani's growth and acceptance of the Lierow family. The things they did for her were heroic, in my opinion. They truly saved Dani, and she in return, has enriched their lives in ways they did not think possible.Overall, I enjoyed Dani's Story. It is definitely worth your time, and I would recommend it to anyone.

great read
this book is very well written. i got very upset that our system that is suppose to protect children failed this child after they were called to check on the child not once but twice and they found nothing wrong?????? as for the thing that gave birth to Dani (i refuse to call her a woman or even a human) it should be thrown in jail with no windows, no toilet and barely any light, and just barely fed enough to maybe keep it a live.as for the family that adopted Dani i cannot say enough about how good these people are. even though they knew of the problems facing them adopting Dani they did not hesitate. read this book and it makes you feel good because there are still good people in the world. yes this book will make mad, and sad at times but it also shows you how good some people are.

Dani is an Angel as is the rest of the family. MUST READ
Diane, Bernie, William and the other boys (forgive me for forgetting names) are the kind of people who God has a very special place in Heaven! I have a lot of faith and believe in my heart, Dani WILL CATCH UP! She's in my prayers along with their entire family. God bless you all, Lierows and i can't WAIT to meet you in HEAVEN some day.

Great story, didn't want it to end
I first found out about this little girl and her family a couple of years ago when their touching story was featured in the St. Petersburg Times. A few nights ago I remembered the story, and after some quick Google searching, found that a book had just come out about Dani and her family. I thought it might have been much of the same content from the newspaper article, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was written by Dani's mother, Diane. She gives a wonderful, engaging account of how they came to meet Dani, how she came to live with them, and all the amazing details of their new life together. I didn't want it to end! It was fascinating to learn more details about her heartwrenching background, and then to read the heartwarming stories of her new life with a caring, supportive family. Dani's story begins very sadly, but after seeing the happy photos and learning about all of her endearing quirks, you will finish this book with a smile on your face and love in your heart. I hope that in a few more years, I will be able to read even more about her and see how she and Willie are doing.I read this on my Kindle and really enjoyed the photos. Wish I could have figured out how to zoom in on some of them, but maybe I just need to read the manual.

Heartbreaking.... and where was the CPS ...
Heartbreaking....and where was the CPS when this outrage was happening. Probably taking some decent family's kids away for having supplements in their house...

Unbelievable.
Heart wrenching and painful to read but I think everyone needs to read this book. How sad it is these children are so badly mistreated, even after they have been "saved" by the system. Dani was and is terribly lucky to have found such wonderful people to love an care for her, just as much as they are lucky to have her in their family. So many children need homes, I hope this book and their story help many many other children find the loving families they so desperately want and need.
