The sounds just work occasionally
Cute book....if the sounds would play consistently! Sometimes does...sometimes doesn't! Very disappointed with this product!

Cute, short rhyming story with opening flaps and sound effects
What a bit of fun this ‘magic’ book is! The story is about Christmas Eve preparations at Santa’s workshop. Inside the book, you lift thin card flaps to continue the story accompanied by appropriate sound effects. On the front cover, there’s a sliding door built in, which when opened reveals Santa and plays a few strains of ‘Deck the Halls’. Inside, open flaps to continue the story and hear bells, sawing, a puppy barking, elves snoring, and - finally – Santa saying Ho,Ho,Ho, to an except from ‘Jingle Bells’. The ‘magic’ works by means of light sensors concealed under each flap. The sensors and sound effects are powered by 3 replaceable LR44 cell batteries. In terms of age/understanding/development, it’s pretty much bang on for my youngest nephew (who will be 1 in December) to get 1-2 further years of enjoyment from it. For this year, listening without much understanding to the story, enjoying the opening of flaps, noise making, and learning vocabulary. We thought this medium-sized board book was lovely – but that it has a couple of problematic traits that might lead to damage in the fairly short term. The front and back covers both appear to consist of multiple ‘pages’ that are stuck together – my older nephews both keep trying to open these when reading to their little brother. Film covering was peeling away at most of the corners of the rear cover upon receipt.

Great for reading with the grandchildren
Although the book appears quite thick it really consists of 11 pages with 6 actions, with the remainder glued together to make space for the electronic components. There’s a small switch on the back of the book to turn the sounds on, it does state that the sounds are light activated and that the book should be read in a good light; we found that to be the case and we needed to use a reading lamp on a dull afternoon. I read it together with my grandchildren and they enjoyed the story and the sounds but were both somewhat confused by the glued together pages and were convinced there were more pages and more story. The sounds are of a good quality and complement the story well. Overall a nice Christmas book.

Cute introduction to Santa's Christmas!
My niece, aged 2, loved this book. We spent several happy afternoons going through it. As other reviewers have noted, it appears to hold more pages than it actually has, but that is typical of DK books which tend to have very thick pages. The book requires batteries, and ideally it would be chargable by USB rather than using batteries but at least you can replace these - and turn the sound on and off if required. We put this in my niece's Christmas Eve box and intend to use it over the next few years, as she can grow with it.

Delightful sound effects when you open the tabs hidden on each page
This is a delightful Christmas cheery story telling book about Santa's workshop. The book itself has compartment tabs on each page that plays sound effects, Adding to the realism of the story with each turn of the page. It is colourful, Festive and really adorable. Ideal for Christmas for the younger children.

Christmas
This is a lovely book 'Santa's Workshop'.I do find it a little expensive at just under £10, i think a pound or two cheaper would make it perfect. It is great, you lift different flaps up and it makes various noises to relate to the story.it is such a sweet Christmas story and would make a lovely Christmas eve story time book.i love that there is an on/off switch at the back to save the battery life. This would make a lovely gift for a little loved one.
