StrongArm Hitch Mount

I have used this twice so far for camping. It's awesome! Get it with the StowAway Hitch Tightener and it will be stable on your hitch. We were able to carry a lot of additional camping gear because of it. There are plenty of tie down holes for bungee cords. We also used it as a table when we were parked at various fishing holes. I love it! And it's so nice that it can fold up. It's perfect for Chevy Tahoes because you can still open your hatch door when the carrier is in the down position. Plus because the exhaust on Tahoes vent to the side you don't have to worry about your stuff getting heated up. Even if the car's exhaust vents directly rearward, I don't think there would be a problem since the carrier sits a good distance away from the exhausts. So happy with this purchase and it came so fast (2 days without Amazon Prime)! I shopped everywhere for a carrier and returned about 4 different kinds that sucked. I was hesitant to buy online but I got lucky on my first try with this carrier. Serious folks this carrier is easy to use and there's practically nothing to assemble. I'm a 5'3" female and I handled it by myself.

After a lot of research I purchased this cargo carrier, in combination with the ROLA 59102 cargo bag (another excellent product), for my first long distance vacation. I feel I made a great decision. This carrier is solid, strong, and reliable. My concerns about carrying luggage and other items behind the car (Durango) dissipated within minutes. Even without an anti-rattle device the carrier remained steady. The design lifts the carrier above the plane of the hitch, increasing ground clearance and providing for easier loading. The fold-up option is convenient and simple to use. Assembly took less than five minutes as there is only one bolt and one pin to install. The main portion is a single welded design. At 50 lbs. I found it to be very manageable to install alone. Its strength was put to test on my return trip home when I was rear-ended in NY. The carrier didn't have a scratch and suffered no other damage (twisting or bending). The 48" width worked perfect for me and didn't obscure my taillights. With vacation over, this carrier makes transporting all my bulk items a breeze.

Used with Toyota Highlander OEM factory hitch. Product assembly was easy enough and the carrier seems sturdy. We opted not to use the bracket that allows the carrier to swing vertical and elevates it slightly. Instead, we bolted the carrier itself into the hitch, it was so long that it just barely fit into OEM hitch, so this may not work for all hitches. Ground clearance was fine even without the bracket and no rattling or noise over 1200 miles. Used with Rola 59102 bag and 59200 spider net for extra security. I appreciate the lighter weight and narrower size than the big hitch carriers, but you still get a 2" fitment without an adapter. I did not appreciate the packing job by Amazon. The box was in poor condition, especially at the hitch end, where it had punctured the box leaving a large opening. The UPS guy just shrugged his shoulders and said it was improperly packed. So, be sure to check the hitch end if you have box damage to make sure it isn't scratched, scraped or bent. Our had a slight tilt to the right when attached to the hitch. it wasn't obvious if this was due to the hitch or to the carrier, or even to damage from shipping, but I'll probably keep it since it wasn't that bad.

It’s a great item to have, especially if you have multiple family members, and you’re just looking to create more space inside your vehicle. I have 3 little kids so I need as much space possible, and this will do. Very well built and easy to install and put together. It only took me about 10 mins from unboxing and assembling. Easy to fold away if just in case you don’t have cargo for the meantime. I would suggest for you to buy the pin with a lock and also the anti-rattle, because the shank it’s not snug when put into the tow hitch. It really helps to have that anti-rattle. This is definitely heavy duty. It worked great for us so I hope I gave you some confidence on buying this product.

I bought this to make it easier to transport a deer with my Jeep TJ on a front hitch, because I did not think the spare tire would allow its use on the back hitch. I was pleased to find it fit well on the back of the vehicle. To modify it for use on the front hitch, I drilled another set of 5/8" holes in the mount insert so I could get it close as possible to the bumper. It worked out well, and is just the right width to drive with it mounted in the front with it tilted up. This one is 4 ft wide, so it works well with my truck or the Jeep. It is sturdily made and is assembled easily, and has a lot of nice tie down holes to secure your load. One thing, read your vehicle's towing tongue weight and to not exceed it. For a Jeep, it is about 350 lbs, although the carrier is rated at 500 lbs and the lower number must be followed to avoid hitch damage. I recommend this, but before you buy, take a tape measure out and see if a 48" wide one will obscure your stop lights or license plate when it is mounted in the up position. They provide a set of hardware to temporarily remount your license plate if it does, but if you cover the plate or stop lights, you might get a ticket.
