Great Expectations (A Stepping Stone Book) Paperback – November 19, 1996

This is a great series for younger readers. It is a nice retelling in shorter, simpler terms. Perfect for my young son who loves to read, but is not old enough for the originals. Great Expectations is a favorite for him!

It has it all. I believe this is Dickens greatest work, a masterpiece that all great literature should be measured aguainst. Enough said.Mike

A great read of a classic. Would recommend to any elementary school student. Charles Dickens is a timeless writer. Great.

The book was for my grandson he enjoy reading the book.

I'm thrilled to see one of my favorite books of all time available for children. This is pretty true to the original, and, as such, has very grim parts like the convict threatening to slit Pip's throat. Something to consider, when choosing a Dickens classic for a child.However, Dickens loved children and wanted to present their plight to the world, which he did, in a very vivid and memorable way.Reading Dickens is a wonderful way to open up conversation about cruelty and fairness, and to light the fire of compassion in a child's heart. And, it is also serious and grim, which is a harsh thing, and shouldn't be introduced too soon, or without an adult to share the story and talk about it. I remember being haunted by this story in Jr. High, so I can only imagine how it could affect a younger child.So, yes, beautifully done...and I wouldn't have even considered reading this to my child before age 10.

This is the most acclaimed works of Dickens. `Great Expectations' is the biography of Philip Pirrip or Pip whose dream is to be a gentleman.Pip, the main character of the novel is an apprentice to Joe, his uncle and best friend. He is well contented till the time he gets the desire to be a gentleman. His chance comes when he is named as the beneficiary to some amount of fortune.Dickens, in this book of his examines the human nature, how vulnerable we are to the call of money. The great author brings out how Pip makes fair-weather friends when he comes to fortune, how he forgets his roots and his good old true friend Joe. Besides that `Great Expectations' depicts also the love of Pip for a certain girl named Estella, for whose sake he wanted to be a gentleman.If you've been asking yourself what is the meaning of true love, then read this fabulous book, it will help you to find the meaning of it to some extent. `Great Expectations' is one of those books that after reading you will feel the self-satisfaction still lingering in your heart for quite a long while.

Great plot. Very intruging. I would recommend this book to anyone who is over nine and loves classics.

A great option to introduce beginner readers to Classical Literatur

Great book - very easy to read a whole book in one night (I'm 11yrs) and helps me to understand more complicated books that would take me too long to read

It didn't take me long to realise this wasn't the Great Expectations I thought it would be. Not only was it abridged to near pointlessness, it was badly abridged too. I don't want to give it any stars at all but the review won't let me get away with that.
