Rainbird High Efficiency Variable Arc Nozzle 10' Radius - 10 pk

Works as advertised, but be sure to get a large enough radius for coverage
These sprinkler heads appear well-made and work as advertised. The only thing to be aware of (which the manufacturer's website mentions, though not prominently) is that the 12-foot radius is the absolute maximum and that it depends on water pressure, which means that in many situations you will get less. Knowing this, I bought these for an application in which I needed a 10-foot radius and they work adequately. The nozzle specified for a 10-foot radius probably would not have worked in this case. Since the radius can be reduced by adjusting the set screw on top, it's a good idea to "go long" if the area you're trying to cover approaches the specified coverage radius of the nozzle. The variable angle feature is, of course, the main reason to buy this nozzle, and it works very well. There is a line on the top of the nozzle that defines one leg of the angle the spray will cover. You set the other leg (that is, the extent of the angle) by rotating the knurled collar below the spray head. When you install the nozzle, the sprinkler riser will have to be rotated to point the line on top in the direction you want, after which you can set the width of the angle by rotating the collar. Doing these adjustments Is straightforward, but is wet work if the sprinklers are running. If they aren't you'll find the job is a lot easier if you aren't fighting the spring that wants to pull the riser back into the ground. Rainbird has just the tool for that: it's called the "Rainbird PTC1 -- Spray Head Pull Up Tool". Amazon sells it for about $11, and it's well worth the expense. The tool makes it easy to pull the riser out of the ground and clamp it in the extended position while you install the nozzle.

Great nozzles, but not quite 10 feet
These HE-VAN-10 (blue top) nozzles are super easy to install and adjust. I recommend the Rainbird spray head pliers and rotor screwdriver tools to make this a really simple install. My only gripe is that these don't really hit 10 feet. I have an 8.5 foot patch of grass covered by 4 nozzles per zone at 60 psi. These nozzles barely overspray with that patch with no wind. There's no way these could actually deliver water to a 10 foot swath unless you ramped your water pressure to the upper limit, which would affect he spray pattern and cause fogging.

Inexpensive but Effective
Using these on the 7 foot wide area between the sidewalk and street. 15 heads on the same zone so these HE models are ideal using less GPM, keeping the PSI up and good throw distance. The adjustable distance or radius allows you to turn them down much farther than what they’re rated at.Having such adjustability allows you to minimize overspray and get nice even coverage. I used these to replace Hunter 8A Pros which were hard to adjust in that when turning the top screw it would turn the arc adjustment top outer ring at the same time. With 15 of the higher GPM Hunters on the same zone the heads wouldn’t even pop up, or were very weak distance. It’s been a lot of trial and error optimizing my sprinklers from the original install when the house was built. Great head to head coverage like never before, might need to run for just a bit longer to get the same precipitation in inches as other models. Make sure your heads don’t need to be raised up, I keep the mower deck high in the summer. With the added grass length it can block the spray.Overall best bang for the buck upgrade for my particular setup from the original Rain Bird 8H and 8Q, or the Hunters mentioned above I wasted my money on based on their great reviews.

Best way to buy
Most economical way to buy these.

Prepare to get wet on install
I needed to replace a few of my sprinkler heads because the battery powered Ryobi mower I bought doesn't have the capacity to cut my Arizona lawn lower than 1 1/2". Bought 10 Rainbird 4" sprinkler head bodies to couple with the new heads. Best way to set the adjustable head (1/4, 1/2, or full) after replacing? Turn on the water to zone(s) you put head(s) in and adjust. This is the "prepare to get wet on install" portion of the replacement. Easy to adjust the heads to what my lawn needed. If the spray radius of the head needs to be adjusted down this is easily accomplished also.

Amazing heads. 100% adjustable. Great coverage.
These sprinkler heads are great. They are completely adjustable invoke directionality and distance. You can go from 0 to 360 Degrees around and adjust the distance from 6 to 9 ft. You no longer need nine different nozzles for each sprinkler head. Multiple versions of this nozzle are all you need. I have one that is shooting 45 degrees I have one that shooting 180 degrees I have one that shooting 90 degrees and they are easy to adjust and install
