My second unit no heavy lifting - Read to end to understand
This is our second unit much easier to install in window, and for windows with screen you don't have to worry about letting insect into your house.since this has a plate that is held by lower window. Because I have this in basement I did cut a couple of pieces of wood so window could not be raised (1 1/2 x 1 1/2) and have one on each end.cools room 12 x 17 just right little noise. Also has small footprint. As an aside one time I went to install a window unit on second floor (did not ask for help) windows were sticky and after positioning in widow could not lower window to top of AC unit that I was holding with one hand. Well I was glad I had a spare AC unit as I let go to use two hands to lower window.I got help on next window. Now I don't need it

This portable AC is a great value for 10
This portable AC is a great value for 10,000 BTU and the price i paid, around $260. You will quickly find all other portable AC are about $100 dollars more than this one, so value is very important to establish here.I purchased 2 of these and both behave exactly as the following, so i'm pretty confident this review is accurate:The only setback is it takes a while to actually cool the room once turned on, there is a label on it that says, please wait 5 minutes for cooling to begin after turning on. This time is more like 30 minutes before it actually starts to affect the rooms temperature. We use these each in 2 different ~250 square foot rooms and that behavior holds true in both scenarios. After about that 30 minute mark, it certainly cools the room, even in 85 degree outside temperatures. I have had 10,000BTU window AC units begin cooling much faster than this in the past, but the portable ac design sacrifices some performance for the extra functionality. There are likely stronger models out there, but again, value wise, this hits the mark.It is important to note that while it is a "portable" ac, it is very difficult to carry. It does come with some good casters so you can roll it, but even with the 2 nice handles on the side, it still weighs about 45 pounds. With its dimensions, there's no way my wife could carry it up a flight of stairs. There are many smaller units out there that may not pump out as much, but if you need to move it regularly, keep this in mind before you buy.Only giving it 4 stars because of 2 reasons:- the delay in cooling setback i described is a bit unfortunate but if you plan ahead, it isn't always an issue.- The first one arrived with a broken fan blade. Haier customer support was a giant waste of time, but good old Amazon took the replacement with a provided free shipping label as always. The new one arrived 2 days later as prime always does, so you can feel secure that amazon has your back even on large items. Thanks Amazon!

Great AC for power outages, etc.
Bought back in 2016 as a temp AC for power outages (hurricane prep).Draws 9.5A so perfect for small 2800W generator. Will not cool down a huge space but good for one or maybe 2 rooms. Be careful with running off an extension cord as the plug will get hot with higher gauge wire. I splurged on a 10ga cord and it does not get hot at all.Used it recently to cool a small condo where the AC has gone out. It kept it tolerable even with the Florida heat.

Does not cool a 300 sq. ft. room. Defective machine or are the good reviews fairy tales.
After months of reading reviews good and bad of portable air conditioners and conferring with other purchasers I picked this unit mainly because of one review that raved about how it had cooled a two bedroom attic space. That review and other raves overruled the negatives, I thought. Well, the unit I received could not cool a 300 sq. fr. room from 77 deg. to below 71 deg. in over 5 hours. I purchased this for the meeting room of my writers group. It took a long time until first use because the type of window had to be modified for the unit. That successfully done I finally turned it on, set it for 68 Deg and waited for it to cool the room. It finally did after several hours but air circulation was poor even in an unencumbered area. Two weeks later (yesterday afternoon and evening) I started it up about one oclock,; by 6:30 it had cooled the area near the machine to 71 deg. The far side of the room was still quite warm even though I had set up a fan for additional circulation. By the time our meeting was over at nine oclock, the room was back up to 75 deg. It would have been better if we had simply opened the windows. This is unacceptable and I am returning the machine today. Amazon readily took my complaint and issued a return label without any fuss.Because there were so many good reviews and so few poor ones, I thought I would have good luck with this machine. Unfortunately, I seem to have purchased one of those that was nearly dead from the get go. This company needs some better quality control. And now I am back to try to find an AC that will meet my needs.

Does the job well
I bought this as a stop-gap fix for a failed A/C unit in my office building. I'm using it to cool our 600 SF payroll office (payroll is near and dear to me) until I get the RTU fixed. The office is interior- no windows- so I'm venting the exhaust up into the plenum space above the ceiling. You MUST vent this unit outside the cooled space; obviously, this unit trades hot air for cool air so the hot air has to go somewhere.I'm happy with the quality and performance of this unit and I would consider buying another one.
