Do these drapes keep the cold out? They say insulated, thanks.

They are not as heavy as anticipated, but yes they do keep the cold out. I have them on a north facing wall (the main direction of our wind) in Oklahoma. I am pleased with them.

Replacing hated verticals on a 144" window. Wondering how many panels will be needed to lay as nicely as in the picture?

Generally the rule of thumb when selecting drapes is you want 1/3 longer than the window to allow for a proper ripple. It also depends on if it’s a pocket rod or grommet. Since the ripple will be larger for a big grommet, so over estimate in that case. For yours it would be 144 (your window width) plus 1/3 (48”) = 192” total You need to buy: Four panels that are at least 48” OR two panels that are at least 98”. Always better to have a bit extra than have them pulled flat and looking more like a sheet on the wall. 😜 One more tip… when hanging curtains or drapes you want the gathered portion (when not open) to lay over the wall not the window, and hung as close to the ceiling as possible. The bottom should just be about an inch from the floor, 3” inches or so below the window, or puddled on the floor (more formal). This allows maximum light and window viewing when open and limits light spillage when closed. So consider that when measuring how wide you need them. Hope that helps. 💗

How well does this work blocking out sound?

they do reasonable blocking, nothing can block ambiance in a city. too well. sirens, dogs, weather alarm tests, children playing next door. impossible. within reason they can muffle most normal sounds.
