Good Light For The Money - Not Alkaline, Carbon-Zinc Cells (But Work Fine).
Good no-frills LED lantern, with a solid center beam and good flood throw to the sides. Decent light output - comparable to another 85 lumen flashlight I own. For the money, the build quality is pretty solid. It won't survive much of a beating, but it's still the best flashlight I own for under $5 (at the time I bought it). The included 6V cell is NOT alkaline, but carbon-zinc. I knew this when I bought it, and - for the money - I'm okay with it. I've used these same cells for years, and I find that their self-discharge rate is acceptable in LED lights (I've gotten 7 years out of a light in our storage room). They also perform well in cold, in some instances working when an alkaline cell wouldn't. I've also never experienced a leak with these Rayovac "general purpose" carbon-zinc cells. If they were more expensive, I wouldn't get them, but I think they're decent for the money. July 2020 Update: I can't believe this $4.80 (at the time) flash light is still working on the original battery. I had mentioned it wasn't very rugged, but it has managed to survive being dropped a few times on a concrete floor with no signs of damage. It mostly sits in my garage, where it's exposed to 80°F ~ 100°F in the summer and as low as 40°F in the winter. After 2.5 years, the beam is still nice and strong (for a sub $5 light). IMO, as long as expectations are reasonable, this is a very good value-priced flashlight.

Bright, nice quality LED lighting, a bargain at the price
UPDATE: I have now owned this flashlight (two of them) for a year and a few months and I have to say that it's held up perfectly. I'm not rough on these particular lights (I have a few heavy-duty flashlights, read: expensive, that I AM sometimes rough with) but I do use them almost weekly around the house. I simply can't understand (and I am somewhat suspicious of) the negative reviews this light has received. Perhaps I just got lucky and got two good ones, but I have found nothing wrong with this light and I still stand by its brightness. That said, I have also bought several 7W Cree tiny flashlights and man oh man, those things are bright and, at around $5 7W 300LM Mini CREE LED Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus Zoom Light Lamp-Blue(3 mode) they are fantastic. Anyway: as far as the Rayovac, for under $6 you won't find a better light. Read any negative reviews with a grain of salt. 11/22/2014. Below is my original review: Considering the price (cheaper than you'll see even in a home-improvement store), it's kind of hard not to buy this flashlight--and so I bought two. Hurricane season is coming and I'm on the shore in Connecticut, so it's time to start stocking up on flashlights, etc. (Last year we took the full brunt of Hurricane Sandy and I *stupidly* had run out of fresh batteries--and, naturally, all the stores quickly sold out.) Anyway, this flashlight is pretty bright and I like the quality of LED lighting--it's a very white, clean-looking light. I'm not sure that the beam will live up to Rayovac's claims of over 400', but for that kind of lighting, there are better lights anyway. I am able to light up the fence at the rear of my property from the kitchen door which is a distance of about 75' and it's fine. I can also light up the tree tops of some 100' white pines. Beyond that though, not so much. Still when you consider the price of the 6v battery, this is a bargain at around $5 (with the battery). But ok, speaking of that battery: it's a VERY lightweight battery--it weighs almost nothing and, I'm no battery expert, but I don't think that's a good thing. I think it means this battery has a limited life. I compared it to a Die Hard 6v battery and the latter weighs at least 10x as much. It's shocking how different the weights are. (If you know a lot about batteries and can explain this, please do--I'd love to know more.) Also, the battery rattles around in the flashlight case a bit--none of my other lantern flashlights have any play. I'm thinking of cramming some paper or bubble wrap in the bottom just to snug things up a bit. But, considering what this sells for, I think I'll buy two more--especially since the shipping was free. How can you beat that? My personal advice is that every room in your house should have one big flashlight all year around and it should be in the same place all the time so you can find it in the dark. I sat in my den last year with 100mph winds bashing the house and I resolved never, ever to be undersupplied on anything again. I have to say though, the storm was a blast to watch :) Be safe. Maybe I'll go buy a few cases of water.

Inexpensive but super bright! A great value
The beam on this flashlight is very strong and doesn’t flicker. I bought this as a replacement for one that got carried off by the guest. I was astounded at the very low price. But this flashlight arrived promptly and works exactly as I needed it too. The battery is super long lasting, and I really like the weight and heft of it as well as as a very easy to use handle.

Excellent product from amazon. Yes a 6 volt rayovac battery is provided with the lantern. Checked the battery after unpacking. The battery seemed to be a original rayovac battery, voltage: 6.3 V & current : 4.4 Amps. I don’t know the exact wattage for this type of battery, as the rated current is not clearly mentioned over it, which determines the life of the battery. For me it worked like a flash light & as well as I take it in my car emergency kit for travels.

the lantern is excellent, the only draw back was the battery that came with it was weak.

Wonderful product, it gives a bright beam to see clearly where you are going. Had to use this product during a power outage and it worked very well.
