Great Read for Coaches and Athletes
Well Done Jay!This is a great book for reminding coaches and explaining to athletes what should be the focus for distance runners. It helps athletes understand some of the "why" behind their training, but it does not undercut the coach by telling them a specific training plan. It includes a portion showing what some of the top programs in the nation do, and helps show how many programs are doing different specific workouts with similar purpose in mind. The more the athletes know and understand, the better their buy in will be. I purchased a set for my athletes and it has greatly helped them understand how incremental steps will help their progression. I would strongly encourage anyone to purchase this book: Coaches, athletes & parents.

Great inspirer
Hey there!I hope this email finds you well. I recently finished reading a book on running and I wanted to share my thoughts and opinions with you. So, grab a cup of coffee and let's dive into this running book review!First of all, let me start by saying that this book is a must-read for both beginners and experienced runners. It covers a wide range of topics and provides valuable insights and tips that can help anyone improve their running game. The book is divided into different sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of running. From understanding the basics of running to proper training techniques and injury prevention, John Smith does a fantastic job of presenting the information in a clear and concise manner. The language used is simple and easy to understand, making it accessible to runners of all levels. One of the things I loved about this book is the emphasis on the mental aspect of running. Smith delves into the psychology behind running and provides practical strategies to overcome common mental barriers such as self-doubt and lack of motivation. This was particularly helpful for me as it helped me develop a stronger mental resilience while running.Another highlight of the book is the inclusion of training plans for different goals, whether it be completing your first 5K or tackling a marathon. The plans are well-structured and cater to runners with varying levels of fitness and experience. I found these plans to be incredibly useful in guiding my training and helping me set realistic goals.I hope you find this book review helpful. If you have any other running-related recommendations or questions, feel free to reach out. Happy running!

Great read
We bought this for my our freshman son who LOVES running both cross country and track. We read most of the book together and he has read it over a few times just to or to reference. His level of understanding, motivation and confidence have noticeably increased and improved. Great addition to his collection.

I'm making my whole team read it!
I'm a high school cross country coach and I have made this book "summer reading" for my team. I love the way he helps young athletes understand their training without undermining whatever the high school coach might be doing! I recommend this book to any high school runner - whether or not they are already well coached!

Great Springboard for Team Discussions
Nothing about this book is new or innovative, but Jay reiterates the tried-and-true philosophies good coaches preach to their athletes everyday in a concise way that has hit home for my high school kids. There are not prescriptive workout plans, instead Jay emphasizes the underlying principles that will make all high school runners better, whether they are winning every race or back-of-the-pack runners. The book also profiles 8 of the top teams in the nation to emphasize that there is truly more than one way to skin a cat. Great teams may have varying Xs and Os in training, but consistency is the through-line that no good program can do without.Bonus: the square shape of the book will add variety to your bookshelf.Carin MarrsSF University High School

The best book for high school distance runners
Consistency Is Key is a simple and "to the point" book that clearly explains the essential concepts high-school runners need to implement into their training and lifestyle to improve as an athlete. The book is entertaining, tells great stories, and paints a clear picture of "what to do" to become the best distance runner you can be. While this book is meant for the high-school reader, adult distance runners, and coaches will learn tremendously from it as well.
