Excellent Reference Book
This is an awesome reference book for when you're contemplating which border design to make for a quilt top. The book is appropriate for the beginner to advanced quilter because it starts with the basics of ensuring quilt top squareness (and how to correct it if it isn't square), how to measure for and cut one or more plain (non-pieced) borders, and how to sew the borders onto the quilt top (including how to miter corners), etc. The book also includes all the information needed to create many different types of pieced borders. The math for fitting borders to the quilt top (or the quilt top to fit the borders) is provided in a straightforward manner and examples are provided to make more sense of the math. (Yes, I'm math-challenged so the examples are appreciated and VERY helpful to me.)In the book's border library discussion, I loved it when I read the following: "Keep an open mind and don't look at the clock. It is all about the finished product, but in order to enjoy the work to be done, you need to enjoy the process and appreciate the progress, instead of racing to the end and not enjoying the journey." It's a great reminder not to just slap on any ole border on a quilt just so that we can call it finished. In addition to borders, the book includes a (overly long) batting discussion, information about backing fabric requirements, and binding techniques. There is also a brief discussion on facing and using a knife-edge finish on small projects that have irregular outside edges (hexagons for example). If you are expecting a book that includes a fabulous gallery of finished quilts that have elaborate borders, this is NOT the book. If you are expecting full quilt patterns that include various borders, this is NOT the book because this is not a pattern book. If you are looking for a book that helps you make pieced borders that you may never have thought you were capable of, then…this is YOUR book.If I were offered purchase do-overs, would I buy this book again? Most definitely, YES!I hope you found this review helpful. Happy quilting.

Great resource
By now I own all of Harriet’s (and Carrie’s) books. The information in this volume is concise and well written. It is easy to understand the instructions because of the diagrams. Much of the information is in previous volumes but it is nice to have these instructions all in one place

Another authoritative book by revered authors
A beautifully illustrated and well-organized guide, everything we've come to expect from these authors. Authoritative, detailed instructions provide even an experienced quilter the information needed to finish that stack of quilt tops that are waiting attention. I own every book this team has written and cannot recommend them enough!
