Real Learning Revisited

A friend recommended the original edition of this book a few months ago & I searched high & low for a copy. I was so excited to hear it had been republished during my search. It’s everything I had been hoping it would be and more.It’s wonderfully inspiring AND practical.Elizabeth is a Catholic woman who deeply loves the Lord. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is evident in her writing. Though she uses the words ‘Catholic education’, this is not exclusive to Catholic theology in any way. As a non denominational Christian, I found this book an incredible resource.I loved that some chapters touched on specific subjects & how to apply the ‘real learning method’ to them.Admittedly, I’m not completely finished with the book- but I just had to write a review ASAP because even just the first few chapters were worth the price I paid.You may be like me & have read tons & tons of homeschool books— this is along the lines of Sally Clarkson & Susan Schaeffer, but in no way too repetitive. It’s unique in many ways & you will be sure to find new ideas here.Thank you, Elizabeth, for writing this & bringing it back again!

I love the first edition of this book. I recommend it to every new homeschooler. However, the "Kindle" version of the second edition cannot be read on a Kindle, only on ipads, mobile devices, and Kindle Fire. This is extremely disappointing since the way the book is formatted for the Kindle app, it is absolutely impossible to read on my phone. I will be asking Amazon for a refund of this purchase. Kindle users: be sure to confirm that your device is compatible!Five stars for content + one star for formatting and kindle incompatibility averages out to three stars.

Amazing. I had not yet found a book that so perfectly expressed my approach to homeschooling until this book! After doing lots of reading and research on homeschooling methods, styles and even reasons to do it, I gradually developed my own ideas on how to educate my children. This book sums up how I feel home education is at its best and expresses exactly what are my goals for our family. I am finding so much inspiration, support and guidance in this wonderful book. I have already filled it with highlights!If I could recommend just one homeschooling book, this would be the one, and I haven't even finished it yet! I know I will be coming back to this book again and again.

I love this book. I have been hoping that Elizabeth would re-release it because it was out of print and I found the first version to add a beautiful vision to life with young children. Thank you for this new version, Elizabeth, and all the others who helped create it.The other children’s books suggested in this volume, and her overall philosophy of life learning at home is something all parents of young children can glean insight. If you are homeschooling, distance learning, or traditional schooling there is beauty here- being available to your children and encouraging their passions.

Perfect book for me. Refreshed my mind. Refocused my love for my kids and homeschooling. And made me ready for next year!

I read the first version that a friend lent me years ago. It was out of print then and I had to return it to her . She lent it to someone else and it was lost so I never had a chance to reread it. I am so grateful that it has been republished! I'm only through chapter three and am today purchasing more for my adult children who are soon to begin home-educating. Unless you have a photographic memory this is a book that should be read once every couple of years while raising your children.

A generous gift of a life well lived. This book is a treasure of encouragment for the reader in all aspects of home education and faith. Elizabeth Foss is an inspiration.
