LavaSoft Ad-Aware Plus

This was once software you could rely on but because there are so many now that could be better it's really a personal preference with this software.

This is a great program. No monthly, or yearly renewal fees. Also you can load it on multiple computers. I had this program on a desktop that I use to have. Make sure you check for updates often. Make sure you use this after you are done with using the net. Or, whatever program you are already using. Since every time you go on the net you get things on your computer that shouldn't be there.

II just tried the free version to see if I want the paid version - I don't. They insist on your email and will not let you easily (maybe impossible) remove your email from their system or affiliates. I feel like Adaware is just as bad as the programs they are supposed to eliminate. Also, I cannot prevent Adaware from loading at startup. I only want it to run when I call it up, but now it takes over the computer and they have my email. I feel like my computer is now infected by Lavasoft. I'm still trying to reclaim my computer - I hope uninstall and a restore will do it, but my email is still compromised.. PS: I just successfully uninstalled the program and rolled back the registry so it seems to be gone ( I hope). If Lavasoft would eliminate the need for my email and allow the user the choice to run the program on demand rather than at startup, I would give it 5 stars. PS: Now (1/6/15) getting junk emails from other companies affiliated with Lavasoft. They violate your privacy! Isn't this the reason we use this kind of software - to keep our data private? Don't sign up unless you want your email circulated. Shame on them.

I recently heard that people who bought the software abroad couldn't update. I bought the software through the site (a little more costly but comes with backup cd and an immedient download). Product works great and I have no problems with it. I would buy lavasofts firewall if it didn't conflict with my Norton 2006 Anti Virus firewall (trust me NAV 2006 is underrated, but i highly suggest making a system backup and having a computer professional install it because it can cause some problems). Although this program has a free version that scans and deletes, the Ad-aware plus has many better features (ad-watch, VERY faster scans, and other security features). I would reccomend this product to everyone, but don't buy from amazon buy it from lavasofts site, otherwise you probably won't be able to download updates for it...
