Harding: Books Review: Bittersweet - First - over 5700 locations (I like to include this info in my reviews because it is something I would like to know before reading) Second - After reading the book, make sure you swipe all the way to end past the Author's Notes, About the Author, Also By, and publisher info as there is an epilogue starting at location 5710 (at least that's the number on my app). It's actually luck that I even saw it as stopped reading after the auhtor's note and my app took me straight to the review page on my iPad, but I went to double check something for my review on my iPhone and when I slid the location bar all the way to the end I saw there was a little surprise epilogue. Now for the review (including my thoughts on the whole series): Crash & Burn is bittersweet for me because this series is one of the best in this genre. Ty and Zane and their Sidewinder friends are some of my favorite characters of all-time. Throughout the series they have gone through so many ups and downs and have faced separation and death I don't know how many times, but yet they always managed to find their way personally and professionally (and illegally ;) ) because when push came to shove Ty and Zane had each other's backs. They were times when they fought with each other, but they always fought together, you know. They deserved their happy ending. I'm not going to summarize this book because 1) I'm sure other have done it already and 2) I think series finales are best left unspoiled for awhile so everyone can experience it for themselves. I will say there were times I gasped in shock and times I smiled and even clapped with giddiness once. The writing and plot development of each of the books has been wonderful from the beginning all the way through to this one. I never really knew what was going to happen next. What's funny is that I usually try to guess how the storyline is going to go with police/crime type plots, but I actually just realized the only time I've tied to predict what will happen next is when I finished reading each of the books because when I'm reading I'm too busy submersing myself into the story. I love when a book and it's characters let you onto the roller coaster ride and not just be a distant spectator. Was this my favorite of the series? No. But it was still a thrilling ride and an exciting, yet well deserved wrap up of the series. I really don't have a favorite because I think they all have been great, but Armed & Dangerous was fun because Julian and Cameron from Warrior's Cross have guest starring roles. Stars & Stripes was the first time we really get to see Ty and Zane in a more open and comfortable place in their personal relationship, so that was nice. But Touch & Geaux had some really fantastically written rough and raw emotional scenes. Fish & Chips was probably the most humorous. Do I recommend it? Yes. But you really need to read the series from the beginning IMO to understand how these characters tick. I also recommend ... Warrior's Cross about Julian Cross and his boyfriend Cameron. And the Sidewinder spin-offs, Shock & Awe and Cross & Crown, which focus mostly on Nick & Kelly. I am excited to see there is a book 3, Part & Parcel, coming soon according to the "Also By" section. The good news is that there is no cliffhanger for Ty and Zane's story. We get a satisfying end to a big chapter (pun intended) in their lives and a nice glimpse into a hopeful future. The bad news is there's a cliffhanger ending for Nick and therefore Kelly. I'm so relieved to see there's another Sidewinder book coming soon, so I'm not left with unfinished business on that front. Thanks for such an amazing journey with Ty and Zane, Abigail! Review: So much better than Ball and Chain - You were likely wondering that if you're reading the reviews, as was I, so I will be basing most of my comparison on it. I was concerned that we'd be left with the same "whiskey tango foxtrot was that, and what happened to my Ty and Zane?!" feeling that B and C dumped on us, but Abigail Roux more than made up for the last mess with a great finale. Thank the baby Jesus. While there is a lot of Sidewinder in this book, they don't hijack it. It remains Ty's and Zane's story with some very important supporting characters. Yes, Nick is an integral role in this story, but not in a way that you want to smack your tablet into your forehead. The guys band together in a way that had me teary eyed. You feel the love. But again, I will stress that it did not feel like the other characters were being force fed to the reader. As for the characters themselves, that's another (dare I say most important) element I was very happy to see the author turn around. In the last book, they felt watered down, silly, and generic. Crash and Burn brings us back to what made us love these characters. They grew their balls back! They don't have to lose their edge simply because they've outgrown their love/hate limbo, and this book proves it. Ty has that scrappy, rakish quality again, and Zane is once more a badass mofo. The only difference is that they've grown in their relationship and ability to trust each other. Zane does things with knives that make me want to high five the nearest stranger. Ty fills the violence shaped void in his big, squishy heart. Chester has a "holy crap that's awesome!" moment. And Nick.. Well, I'm not angry at him for being in the book like I was the last go. Okay, I actually LIKED him in this one. Oh, and the witty banter is back! How I'd missed the sarcasm and uncomfortable jabs here. There's some very real tension and barriers they have to talk out between a few characters (namely Ty and Nick), but it gets you right in the gut. They aren't whining or being pig headed. Instead, they have to figure out how deep trust and brotherhood really run. If you can't handle a slight spoiler- as in something that happens in the first couple chapters- this is where you stop reading. I was so happy to see a couple big cliches avoided. For one, I was thoroughly expecting the impromptu wedding to go predictably array and dragged to the end of their happily ever ending. It didn't! They decided, "hey, we're doing this now come hell or high water," and they did.. Very early in the book. It was perfect for them. Invisible color palate and a stealth theme, but still heartbreakingly romantic. As for the end, I won't go into any detail, but it was satisfying without being toothache sweet. No cringing necessary. Just enough happy ending to make my heart feel a little better about leaving these guys. Overall, this ending was worthy of a great series with wonderful characters. Abi Roux has a special way with giving the reader a chance to really bond with these guys. I empathized with them in a profound way, cried with them, laughed with AND at them. I am so sad to see them go, but it was a beautiful journey that was worthy of a great, explosive (bad pun penalty!) ending. Time to go cry now.

Goodbye
It's sad to say goodbye to one of my favourite couples but I think this series needed to end a couple of books ago. This one was good but no where near as good as the start of the series I loved the Ty and Zane moments in this one. Their relationship is finally in a good place and strong. I also loved seeing all of the previous characters, the Grady family are still a hoot and Zane's mother is finally thawing. I've always liked Julian and Preston (he is prob the scariest character of the books) And I always felt sorry for Preston as he gave up a lot for Julian and Cameron, so I was glad to see them both appear. Liam is a weird character and I would like to see more to try and work him out. The sidewinder boys are hilarious at times but you have to wonder how they ever survived war, Kelly was a badass in this book, he dropped his funny guy persona and fought for his man. I felt for him at times because he was expected to leave his partner and just continue on. Ty is one of my all time favourite characters, but in the first books he was so capable and came across as a retired force recon marine but it seemed as he got happier in his relationship and the outside betrayals started to come to light, Ty seemed to loose his capabilities and didn't seem as deadly as he did in the first few books. Zane really was a Phoenix. No matter what was thrown at him he kept fighting back and rising from the ashes better than before. He now handles betrayal better, taking note of it but not letting it drive him to the bottle like previously. I wish he would give up on the endearment "doll" I hate it. All in all it wasn't as strong as the first few books but it was good to say goodbye 3.5 stars

This series has monopolised my life for a couple of months. Ty and Zane have been in my thoughts daily - and so much so that I often found myself put aside all matter of personal things just so I could get back to reading in order to follow along with the twists and turns that dictated their lives. Highlights were many, but for me the most profound moment was the realisation in New Orleans that Ty and Zane had crossed paths before.. they truly were meant to be. I loved them. So much. I also loved all the additional characters, all of the Sidewinder men, Deuce, Earl, Mara, Chester, Harrison.. Exceptional. And already, I want to go back and read it all again.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series, as a whole. Ty and Zane were tremendous characters and we learned so much detail about those people around them, by the characterizations painted by the author, Abigail Roux. This book sees our now engaged crime fighters taking on what will hopefully be their last battle. They just need to bring down a drug cartel and find a mole within the FBI. Easy work for these two! :-) The author does a great job of bringing the story to a conclusion. I thought we'd see them retire to the ranch in Texas, but the author left us wondering what would become of them after the series closed. Throughout the nine books you come to learn so much about these two, you think you know them. It's sad to see them go!
