Beginner's guide to Intercessory Prayer by Dutch Sheets is a concise guide useful for any follower of Christ who wishes to learn how to pray more effectively (beginning level to more advanced). It is well organized, insightful, very easy to read and absorb. It starts with the basics: a desire for a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. I read book in several days while frequently underlining in pencil (for future reference). Now several prayer warrior friends & I are reading it aloud to each other. We are praying about possibly offering it as a church wide study in the future. Would be great for new believers also. Each chapter has about 4 easy questions at end of chapter. Filled with many scripture references written out.

Realizing I had drifted away from God and desiring to be the person God wanted me to be I started praying. I asked Him to reveal to me those things that were keeping me from growing knowing full well that with God, if it be in His will, you get what you pray for. It's often not pretty.After months of hit or miss prayer He told me Get back to Church, to My people where you will hear My Word.( Several of my Christian friends had asked me to join them but I had excuses, I'd get anxiety attacks, can you believe I didn't realize where those we're coming from?) Finally I knew I had to go. Almost as soon as I made that commitment a dark cloud lifted from me.My pastor pointed my in the direction of the intercessors at my church. I knew what it was, I thought. Seeking to learn as much as I could I ordered this book.It has been such a blessing. The Lord hasn't been away from my side. This book has given me a guideline and structure to fervent and effective prayer.If you want a closer walk with the Lord a if you feel called to prayer, read this book. You will never be the same.Pray His will,, read God's Holy Word and thank Him for His answers because you can be assured they are on the way.

The author shares many good points and wonderful stories, and for them I'd highly recommend this book. And then the author also shares some of his personal opinions, which weren't my cup of tea, but perhaps you find them agreeable.Most of this book I found awesome. The author points out beautifully that prayer and intercession should be all about friendship, relationship and partnering with God, that what we pray should be motivated and arise out of love for God - not out of motivation to get something, nor out of feeling of obligation or sacrifice, but out of love - and under the guidance of God's love, looking at the world through the eyes of love. We are the instruments through which love and power of God express, and we should be a pure channels through which that love flows.The author is also pointing out that while some things may happen of their own accord and we don't have to ask for them, that we are instructed to pray and ask for what we want.He shares many stories from the Scripture, as well as from his experience and from other people's experiences, and the stories themselves are worth getting this book. There are stories about problems that people had simply because they didn't ask that those problems be solved. There are also stories where even though people were told that the problem was solved in spirit, they still had to ask for it before they experienced it.Praying and asking may take different forms. In this book, the author has offered prayers after each chapter, and they are a good starting point. The stories the author shared also have examples of what people prayed for to resolve the problematic issue and the miraculous results their prayers produced. You'll find all kinds of wonderful stories of miraculous healings and of protection - truly inspiring.

Powerful book I must say. And I am challenged even more. The Lord is my strength. I highly recommend it.

Awesome and practical introduction to intercession. Many points to consider and to help you understand what it is and things you may already recognise in your own life. This confirmed many things for me and reminded me of the importance of being an intercessor, but also the need for total reliance and relationship with God to do so.

I like to read books of prayer and books about prayer. This book is a basic manual focussed on helping you to understand and practice intercessory prayer.This is not one of those heavy theological documents detailing deep theological underpinnings and facets of prayer, this is a practical demonstration of how to pray for others, what to pray for and why.The author provides examples of prayer and presents stories of answered prayer. He talks about praying for people, communities, cities, and countries.From the beginning of the book the author begins to build up a picture of what intercession is, how it looks in practice and what the best way to intercede is. He discusses why intercession is necessary and why you should be involved in it.You don’t have to be a Christian to pray for your friends, your family, and your community.Intercession brings you closer to God and to God’s mission in our lives.I enjoyed this book. I had it for more than a year before I read it but once I started I couldn’t put it down.
