The House Takes a Vacation

‘Travel is such a pain in the bricks’ – another point of view about vacations
Massachusetts author Jacqueline Davies is a prominent write of children’s books, including her very popular THE LEMONADE WAR SERIES of five books, LOST, TRICKING THE TALLYMAN, PANDA PANTS, NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, and this delightful THE HOUSE TAKE A VACATION.This little book is fun to read, beautifully illustrated by Lee White, and contains some play on words that will entertain adult readers as much as kids! The premise – a house decides to go on vacation after the owners depart, and following a discussion among the chimney, the roof, the front door, the sunporch, the bedroom windows and the chimney about preferences, the house gets on the freeway and departs for the beach. At the beach there are conflicts and the house drifts out to sea, only to be washed ashore and ready to move back to the cellar foundation called home…and time to consider their next vacation.Reading this book is a pleasure – that sort of entertaining fun that kids will enjoy watching the adult reader giggle and guffaw. It is also a ‘careful what you wish for’ tale that hints at other lessons. Recommended. Grady Harp, January 21

The funniest children’s book!!
I laughed so hard reading this book to my son. I love it!!! He was too young even at 5 to get the jokes, but in a few years I think he’ll find it funnier.

Nice story, but the kindle version is poorly made
The story is nice and funny. We especially liked those "I'll lead the way! — shouted the front door". But on every page the left side is partly "eaten" near the center (unfortunately cannot add any photos). The overall image therefore looks somewhat unaesthetic.

Lovely book
Read this book on vacation with my granddaughters (at the beach). Very well written, so cute it made the 4yr old giggle many times. The basement being a stick in the mudd and the windows having “pane” very cute ! 3 times in one sitting and two days later wanting to read it more throughout the day. Thanks for the very imaginative read.

Excellent word play!
I am going to use this book with my niece & nephew to discuss all the word play. They are both very intelligent, but miss many humorous bits because they don't understand the puns, similes, or metaphors. Great to get this lesson in a funny picture book!

Imaginative story
Very cute story the puns and play-on-words were fun. My kids enjoyed it. The personification of the house parts was interesting.
