Must have for Christmas!!!!
OMG, I am absolutely OBSESSED with the Twinkly Strings 600 LED lights! These are hands down the BEST holiday lights I’ve ever used—actually, scratch that—they’re the best lights for ANY occasion, indoors or outdoors! Vibrant Colors and Customization First of all, the colors are INSANELY vibrant! With the RGB+ White feature, you get endless possibilities—literally millions of color combinations at your fingertips. The lights can be anything from warm and cozy white to bold and wild party colors. And the best part? The customization is next-level amazing. Using the Twinkly app, you can control every individual LED, creating patterns, animations, and color schemes exactly how you want. You can even map the lights to match the shape of your tree or outdoor setup. How cool is that?! Ease of Use Setting them up was a total breeze. The app is super intuitive, and connecting the lights to Wi-Fi was quick and easy. It took me no time to start playing around with all the effects and designs. I also love how you can sync them with music or even use voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant—talk about a smart home upgrade! Indoor and Outdoor Versatility Another HUGE plus is the versatility. Whether I want to deck out my living room or make my yard shine like a winter wonderland, these lights handle it all perfectly. They’re waterproof and durable enough to withstand the elements outside, but sleek and classy enough to use indoors for parties, holidays, or just because! Dynamic Effects The dynamic effects and pre-set animations are pure magic! You can make your tree twinkle like a starry night or go all out with crazy flashing patterns for a party vibe. The motion effects are so smooth and mesmerizing, I found myself just staring at them in awe. It’s like having a light show at home, and the fact that you can make your own custom animations is the cherry on top. Overall Experience I’m seriously in love with these lights. They’re a total game-changer for decorating, whether it’s Christmas, a birthday, or just a random Tuesday night when you want to add a bit of sparkle to your life. They’re SO much fun, endlessly customizable, and super easy to use. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to regular lights again! Pros: Gorgeous, vibrant colors and endless customization Easy setup with intuitive app control Syncs with music and voice assistants Perfect for indoor AND outdoor use Waterproof and durable Stunning pre-set and customizable animations Cons: Honestly, none! They’re perfect! Rating: 5/5 (If I could give it more stars, I would!!) Get these lights—you will NOT regret it! 🎄✨

These are beautiful, versatile decorative lights!
I have been buying cheap, basically disposable, colored and white light strings for years. But when I saw these on my stepson's Xmas tree, I had to have them! His cost a small fortune just a few years ago, but these were on sale, just a bit above the cost of buying enough multiple sets to try to achieve the same effects. I bought the 400-led set (still on sale at the time of this review posting), which I found quite sufficient to light up my 7 1/2 ft. tree. I read some older negative reviews before buying - but seeing these in action (on my stepson's tree) sold me anyway... The lighted lenth is 105 ft., divided onto two strings connected by the power cord/transformer, This worked out great for me - I just put the transformer near the center of the tree and took one strand toward the top, and the other toward the bottom. You connect the lights to the app via Bluetooth first, but then switch to wifi. I found the app easy to use - and addicting to play with! The app enables you to control blink rate, led color and intensity, even lets you set up wave-like patterns which oscillate side to side or top to bottom (assuming you want that). You can also pick from a fairly bewildering assortment of pattern options, including recognizable flags and faces; to do that, you need to use your phone's camera in the app, so that it knows how you arranged the lights on the tree. For our tree, I picked a random color, slow-blinking option, which we customized for blink speed and light intensity - the slow blink setting with random color / random on-off lights results in a twinkling effect, something I was looking for.... And these are very bright - our current setup has the power level at 17%. Once you've settled on a custom lighting set-up, you can save it in the app - we saved two, one for me and one for my wife. After the lights were on the tree, the app setup and customizing our respective programs took less than 30 min. (and that included the argument about whose looked better)... I can't personally speak to reliability yet, but my stepson's have been working well for several years. These are indoor/outdoor lights, so I'm thinking of buying additional sets for some of my outdoor installations. In my opinion, these are well worth the money...

Bright, beautiful, LED Christmas lights!
We bought these lights back in 2022. These were my dream Christmas tree lights. We have a 7' tree and the 600led was plenty enough. I do wish I would have went with the smaller size as I have a bunch extra that we have to wrap around the tree. The app is pretty basic. It is nice that you can map out the tree, and make your own designs. My little girls love to play with that. I do wish it had better features and was more advanced. The negative is that if you want it to sync with music you either need to keep your phone next to a music source or play it from your phone and keep your phone on that. Or you have to buy a $30 USB thumb drive for it to hear the music constantly. The power brick is pretty big and I think they could have easily implemented that into it, so we didn't have to purchase another device. These are already pretty expensive as is. So far we have gotten 4 years worth of Christmas's out of it. The kids love it every year and it's like it's brand new all over again! I do think it's money well spent and I think we have gotten our money worth, but hopefully we will get another 4+ years out of them!! They are super bright and you can adjust that. They also have timers to shut them off during the day which we utilize. So far, ever year we have not had any issues with them being tangled like traditional Christmas lights! They also offer a huge selection of colors! I would highly recommend, and our family enjoys these Christmas lights every single year!

Best light set yet
Someone asked if these lights are still worth getting, if you don't buy the curtain lights version: Yes! I hung my string, not curtain lights, across a balcony railing, 2 purposely uneven, crossing, swag designs; horizontal, only 1/3 the way down and while you won't get say, a Halloween pumpkin face or Christmas presents design with the string lights, you will get, even with the preset or download designs, many amazing patterns and sophsticated combinations of colors, besides being able to widely choose your own. So far, as I bought mine not long ago-except for the initial trying them out for different multicolor combinations, I have only used these for the month leading up to Halloween yet, and with just choosing 2 colors for October; orange and purple or just all orange or all purple, I did 2 weeks of changing the patterns each night, before I repeated any of them. One night I used the "Scanner" pattern on a dimmer light level of purple and with the lights just 1/3 the way down the railing, it gave the unintended but wonderful, abstract look of small misty purple ghosts going back and forth and fading out at the tail end as they go across the railing. As another review noted, the "fire" preset pattern, while it only shows flame shapes on the curtain lights version, on the string lights version, it shows a delightful and unexpected combination of colors that look very autumn-like. There is a wide choice of brightness or dimming levels, speed or slowness levels, along with the choice of many patterns. There's a very wide choice of colors, including actual orange for Halloween, not just gold, and shades of purple, not just blue, but of course, shades blue and gold colors are available on this set, too. When you first start, you "map" the lights, by hanging them in any direction or pattern or way that you choose, then point and also scan-move your camera through the app, along your string, to get the entire string "mapped," until all lights turn a certain color, which may take a few times; no big deal, considering the results you get, after you're done and then can start choosing your colors and patterns. Once set, you can also change individual lights to the colors you want or choose from many presets or download colors and patterns made by other people. I tried out many color shades, tints and patterns, when my set arrived; even mapping them while they were still bundled and was amazed with the results, even then. The bundles come gathered with velcro straps; a nice touch. What could be improved?: Only 16 patterns at a time can be saved; a lot more would help. These lights, as coming with 2 strings attached to the works at the center instead at one end, is just plain weird. As they are long, I put that center at one end of my railing at the outlet, & then placed each string up on the railing going to the other end, one at a time along the railing to avoid tangling them. There are a few patterns included that don't let you change the colors for them; most give you many color options. I have not yet tried the timer, as it's fun to just point my phone at them outside while I'm inside as a remote, as they are close enough. I wish the setting where you can choose individual light colors had as the image of your lights configuration, one that could be enlarged on your phone to make it easier to hone in. These aren't major concerns and these dazzling lights are the best lights on the market, as of now-late 2022. I also have bought the current longest string version; 600 lights, for my Christmas tree later, and expect to be further amazed. This is an investment; costs more than other strings; worth it if they last. I changed from my previous light set, as that one, though it had many-not as many-very nice colors and patterns, quit after having them up, off and on, for not quite 2 fall-spring holiday seasons, so I wasn't going to get the same again and hope these ones are longer lived. I also wanted to be able to have my own choices with color combinations and dimmer levels.

The good, the bad, and the? UPDATE, YEAR 2
Christmas 2021 Update: I tried to crank up my Christmas lights, which I finally configured last year to make them look like I wanted my tree to look. The app updated, so all of my custom settings are gone, and I will need to start over. Apparently, no one from Twinkly bothered to read any of the reviews, because the update didn’t improve the app. In fact, it is worse. Last year, I could use the Twinkly lights with my 5.0 GHz WiFi, but when I tried to connect the app to WiFi this year, I received a giant notice that a 2.4GHz network is required. This is a new requirement - my WiFi has not changed since last year, but Twinkly changed its software so that my HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS WORTH of lights are USELESS. THE 2.4 GHz requirement is not stated on the Amazon page or in the Twinkly brochure, so buyer beware. Better yet, DON’T BUY A TWINKLY PRODUCT. It will not work on a 5.0 GHz WiFi system (which means most fiber optics WiFi connections, such as Verizon Fios. Christmas 2020: I want to switch to LED lights to reduce electricity consumption and heat generation (fire hazard, especially with a fresh cut tree). But I also like my Christmas tree lights to be red, white, and green, and standard LED strands don't come in that configuration, apparently. (Last year's Christmas was a "lightmare" when I tried to find warm white bulbs but could not.) So I bought five 250 light strands of these lights, in the hope that I could configure them as I wanted. The answer was "yes, sort of". It turns out that, unlike the old incandescent lights, these cannot be plugged into each other to create longer strands. Each strand must be plugged in separately, with a large transformer plug. So either multiple transformers must be plugged into a power strip and run through the tree from the bottom, or a multi outlet extension cord must be strung through the tree so the lights can be plugged in closer to the areas of the tree where they will be strung. Also, the plug is in the middle of the strand, so if they are plugged into an extension cord in the middle of the tree, the plug must be positioned to allow for stringing both below and above (and the big black transformer is stuck in the middle of the tree). The lights, themselves, are on (VERY dark) green wires, but the plugs and controllers are black. I returned the 250 light strands and bought these 600 light strands so there will be fewer transformers stuck in the middle of my tree. But the transformers for the 600 light strands are correspondingly larger, so there is no way to avoid having the big black things in the middle of the tree. Hide them behind large ornaments, I guess. The lights, themselves, are programmable with an app. These are just "RBG" lights, and they are preset in certain patterns so that the preconfigured white bulbs are "cool white". But the patterns can be modified with the app to select a version of yellow that looks like warm white, so that can achieve the traditional warm white look. HOWEVER, the app is terrible. I spent hours chatting with customer support trying to get the lights to do what I want, and learned that many of the things that I thought would be intuitive are not possible with the app. Each strand of lights must be configured separately, so it is impossible to configure a warm white version and apply it to multiple strands, even if you save it as a "favorite". Each favorite applies only to its own unique strand, apparently. At least, that is all I've been able to achieve. That means, if you use the slider button to select a warm white shade of yellow, there is no guarantee that you will select the same shade for subsequent strands because you can't see what you did previously when you try to recreate it for the next strand. Fortunately, the settings can be edited once they are on the tree, so you can play with the colors until they approximate the consistent color you were trying to achieve. Customized patterns disappear every time the app updates, so customization is of limited utility. It is theoretically possible to "group" strands, which I thought would mean that my customized colors and patterns could be applied to all the strands in the group, but the customized versions disappear when a group is created, so that feature is worthless. So if you want to try these, buy the longest strand you can find (currently 600 bulbs) to avoid having to program too many strands. Then hope that future updates will improve operation of the app so you won't have to buy new lights again. These suckers are expensive for something that is used only once a year. I usually plug in my lights through a wall timer, and I was pleased to see that the app does include a timer. But, again, it must be configured separately for each strand of lights. There is no way to copy the settings and apply them to another strand. And, what's worse, there is only ONE timer setting. So you have to choose between turning on the lights in the morning and keeping them on all day, or leaving them dark all day and turning them on in the evening. There is no way to set the timer to turn them on and off in the morning (when it is still dark), leave them dark during the day to save electricity, and then turn them on again in the evening, when it's dark again (and in normal years, people return from work). So the timer is of limited utility and I will need to continue using my wall outlet timer. So. These lights are a good idea, badly executed. Prepare yourself for frustration and compromise. Then determine whether those negative features are worth the price.

Don't think about it ... just buy them
These are amazing. We ordered two strands for our 7ft Christmas tree and were so amazed by them. You can map them on your tree and then configure whatever colors you want, patterns, brightness. We love them. They're really durable too and I'm honestly thinking about getting more for outside the house. All the pre-made light patterns on the app were so fun for the kids, we even had the whole tree solid red for a Stranger Things watch party and it was awesome. These lights are so worth the money, don't walk - run!

Very impressive and beautiful!
First of all, you know you've arrived into the future when your Christmas lights need to be attached to your Wi-Fi and you need to download an app on your phone to control them! LOL! I remember growing up in the 80s and thinking that it was super cool when you could install that one white flasher bulb to make your holiday lights flash on and off! But I digress. These light are really amazing. Sure, they're expensive but they do exactly what they advertise and they are of very high quality. I can envision many situations beyond the holidays where creative people can use these to set a mood or make amazing displays for any holiday or special occasion. The lights are really small compared to conventional Christmas light strings, almost like fairy lights, but I think that's an advantage. The strings are very light and easy to manage and you can pack a lot of lights onto a tree for extra effect and wow factor. My small tree is using a single 600 light strand. I bought a second 600 strand but even I, as a Leo who sometimes channels my inner Clark W. Griswold, decided that this was a enough. Setting up the lights is a breeze. Downloading the app is simple and straight forward. If you have an Amazon Echo as I do, integrating control over the lights into Alexa is super simple. I have them timed to go on and off from dusk until dawn and it works great. No issues. There are dozens if not hundreds of special effects that people have created on-line and which you can download if you really want to put on a display that looks like something out of Las Vegas. Or you can do more subtle displays, which is what I opted for. I'm planning on switching to a soft white with white sparkles for Christmas Eve. I highly recommend these if you like to change up your lights. Happy Holidays!!!

Great for Creating a Custom Graphic/Text Display!
Twinkly Light Set – TWS400SPP Special Edition 400 LED RGB+W with Twinkly Music purchased separately. I purchased 4 sets (1600 LEDS Total) of these lights January 2022 specifically for creating my own visual display to be used in a large barn. My end goal was to create a dynamic display that I could use to show both graphics and text using the LED lights all year long not just during the holidays. I did not want to be limited to a set of standard graphic displays that typical LED holiday lights generally have. There are commercial LED signs that are readily available that will do this, but their costs are significant and, in some cases, there is a learning curve to the software required to run and create the display. After doing some online research the Twinkly light set was discovered. The description of the light set met the requirements that would allow me to complete my LED light project. I liked the fact that these lights were controlled by an app using WIFI and had the ability to display a set of Twinkly created images along with your own custom images and text. The Twinkly lights checked all my boxes and their cost is reasonable considering their capabilities. I think most people would be happy with the bright white color the RGB lights produce, but I wanted maximum flexibility, so I went with the RGB+W LEDs that provide the bright white along with the softer typical white light. I experimented with different grid placement layouts, i.e., spacing the LEDs 2 inches versus 3 inches apart (note, the lights are made so that 3 inches is the max spacing when used for a grid like I have done). I also tried using a rectangle (4 x 8 feet) backing versus a square (4 x 4 feet, 8 x 8 feet) and found that lights work best when placed using a square. When I used the rectangle backing the graphics failed to display without cutting off the top or the bottom of the graphic being displayed. I ultimately decided to space the LEDs in a 2-inch pattern on a 8 x 8 foot square. This produced the best display for both text and graphics. I used 2 pegboard sheets each being 4 x 8 feet, 1/8 inch deep with 1/8-inch holes. I built a frame using 2 x 3-inch 8-foot studs and screws to hold this all together. Once the frame and pegboard were constructed, I painted everything using a flat black plastic coat spray paint. The black background worked great for highlighting the LED bulbs. One thing I want to note is that the LED base is just a hair larger than the 1/8-inch standard pegboard hole, so I had to drill the hole slightly larger (1,600 holes, phew) to get them to fit. I used standard construction silicon to hold the LEDs in place. I laid everything out so that the 2 pieces of pegboard connected in the middle with the proper 2-inch light grid spacing. Even though the 2-inch light layout did not take up the entire 8 x 8 feet base, having the extra space on the outside of the LEDs allowed for much easier handling and mounting. It also allowed room for a power strip to be placed behind the base without touching the lights providing for a nice clean look. Because each light string has its own controller with a button on top that allows you to control and pair the lights, I mounted all the controllers on top of the backing easily accessible as needed. I used 4 steel brackets painted black to connect the 2 pieces of pegboard together. I used ½ inch black pipe brackets to hold the completed structure to the wall. All brackets were purchased through Amazon along with the Twinkly lights. I used a switched outlet to plug in the power strip, all behind the structure. Note the Twinkly light cord is plenty long to span the backing and mount all the controllers on top. Because I planned to mount these 12-feet up on a wall, my last hurdle was to figure out how to lift this now heavy completed structure up while still being able to plug in the power and permanently mount. After exploring different options, I decided to use an inexpensive hand wench from Harbor Freight to lift the structure. This required a 3/8 inch “U” bracket mounted to the 2 x 3-inch stud on the top of the structure along with mounting the wench to the header board of the wall I was mounting this to. It worked perfectly and this method allowed me to hold the structure in place while I completed all the wiring and mounting brackets. The lights are bright and everything worked pretty much as planned, but not without some trial and error. The Good The lights look great and work as advertised. I can display Twinkly’s canned graphics and use custom graphics and text created with my phone or IPAD. This allows me to create logos, Christmas trees, birthday congratulations, whatever I want for whatever occasion. The way the Twinkly app maps the LED lights is phenomenal. You simply point your Phone/IPAD in mapping mode at the lights and the lights are mapped! They use WIFI so I can control the Twinkly lights from anywhere on the same network. They are LEDs so their power usage is minimal. Considering what you can do with these lights, their price is reasonable and much cheaper than trying to do this using commercial sign solutions. Note that the price has gone up since I purchased my lights, but I still think the price is reasonable for what you get. I also have some DMX controlled stage lights. When you compare the learning curve to get the DMX lights to do what I want versus the Twinkly lights, it is like night and day. The Twinkly lights are easy to set up and control versus the DMX lights. The Bad It took me a while to figure out that the Twinkly lights require a really good WIFI connection. I have placed these lights in a very large structure. While my other devices have been fine (Sonos speakers, Google Home, Smart TV’s, etc.) I could not get the Twinkly lights (placed even closer to the router than these other devices) to work reliably. I finally had to purchase a MESH system to connect to the Twinkly devices, so they worked correctly every time. The Twinkly music dongle does not always work reliable regardless of the improved network when controlled through the app using WIFI. It works fine if using the control button on the dongle but seems to lose its connection to the app from time to time with WIFI. I run a fiber based high speed network, so I am pretty sure it’s the dongle and not my internet or WIFI. You must map the lights for each device (iPhone/iPad, etc.) that you use to control the Twinkly lights separately. I have not figured out a way to share my custom created images across devices. This means you must recreate the image for each device used to control the lights. I have also noticed that you will lose your custom images if you clear cache on your device, remap your lights or reload your app. This can be frustrating if you spend a lot of time creating the image. In summary, I like the lights and feel that the plus list outweighs the negative list. No, they are not perfect, but I believe they offer the best bang for the buck today for what these lights can do.
