New Mexico Hatch Red Chile Powder (Medium)

I’m a huge red chili fan! I always buy red chili powder when I’m in NM, but we didn’t go this past summer and I was almost out. Figured I’d try this off Amazon. This is excellent chili powder! I purchased the medium, which I find a little bit spicier than the usual medium that I would buy. But it’s fine, I’ll just use a little less. This is a photo of the chili powder added to my favorite southwest black bean soup! It gives it a little extra zing and more of a homemade flavor. I will definitely purchase again.

So happy we found this vendor on Amazon! we usually order from El Rey Farms but this chili is even better. Has lots of flavor and is perfect for our enchiladas. Being from New Mexico we know our chili :-)

My husband is from New Mexico and I lived there for over 16 years. I love cooking southwestern foods, especially red chili sauce. Since ristras rot in the humid climate here, and we do not have a freezer that would keep a ristra, I have had to make red chili sauce from the powders. This brand is wonderful and pure. Not only is the sauce great, we use red chili as a seasoning in something or other weekly. I order the Medium and the Hot varieties and often put some of each in recipes. I can highly recommend this powder and those who sell it. I will continue to purchase their chili on a regular basis.

This has a better flavor and zip than most. Not too hot (unless you really can't handle spice) so it's great for almost everything. Good color, a good texture and it mixes well into stew, albondigas, onto eggs, etc.This is my go to for spice. I put it into a salt shaker so I can grab it quickly as I'm cooking.

The Fruit Basket (Seller) in Albuquerque NM is a long-time family favorite for many, many years. When ordering Hatch NM red chile powder you know it’s authentic (the sauce is RED when made because there is only one ingredient…NM chile). Be cautious of sellers who may add fillers to the ingredients. When you cook it, the sauce is brown NOT red and it does not have the true NM chile flavor.

I love this chili powder. It has a unique flavor that makes the best chili. This is the real deal.

I like that it comes in a good quality bag that reseals easily. It has good flavor and is spicy, but I wouldn’t call it extra hot per se. I’ve had some really insanely spicy red chili before and this is just mid-hot to me. Still like it though!
