Q: What makes this premium? what's the benefit over the normal black nesdr? it still says it needs ham it up?

Hi, thanks for your interest! This SDR uses the E4000 tuner instead of the R820T2 tuner utilized in the NESDR SMArt (black). In brief, this means a frequency capability of about 65MHz-2300MHz as opposed to the 25MHz-1700MHz capability of the NESDR SMArt. The frequency response (sensitivity) is also different, but is generally better on the NESDR SMArt XTR (silver) below about 500MHz and above about 1500MHz. You are correct, for HF, we recommend using the Ham It Up. Most other products which claim to be capable of HF frequencies use what is known as 'direct sampling', which results in very poor to poor HF performance. As such, we have not implemented these features in our SDRs at this time. Please contact us any time if you have further questions!

Q: I have a pi - do i need anything else to get started?

You will need a software app to make it work. I use an app called "SDR Sharp". Just Google it to find the website. It's a free download.

Q: Can you receive short wave and long wave signals?

The frequency range is specified in the description, 65MHz-2200MHz. Thanks!

The NESDR SMArt XTR has a total frequency range of 65MHz-2300MHz, with a small gap at 1100 MHz. The NESDR SMArt (ASIN: B01GDN1T4S) has a total frequency range of 25-1750 MHz. Thank you for your interest.

As the headline states.The product was never delivered to me. I don't blame Amazon, but PostNord. It is really unfair to only give 1 star - maybe the product was worth 5 stars.

Das Gerät ging kaputt. NooElec hat per Mail versucht das Problem zu lösen. Als dieses nicht gelang, erhielt ich ein neues.
