Top quality and pricey
This OEM kit was quite a bit more expensive than the cheap aftermarket replacements, but worth it. I made sure to re-balance the garage door first, as I believe that contributed to the original gear stripping out. It worked well for more than 20 years! Installation was pretty easy, helped by a couple of videos on YouTube.

Worked quite well. Easy install.
As you can see in the picture, the old gear was completely stripped of it's teeth. I was going to make a gear, but that's time consuming and a lot of work. When I found the gear AND it's assembly online for only $20 I jumped at it. I did not read the included instructions because I'd already watched a few youtube videos on how to fix it. The packaging left something to be desired, as it was a plastic bag of parts in a puffy envelope. That's Amazon's choice. The gears could have been damaged or the shaft could have been bent by whatever machine gouged the outer envelope. I'd suggest that they use a box inside the puffy. Installation was simple. Remove the outer case (8 screws) and then remove the chain. Take out 3 screws to remove the assembly and then reverse the process to put it all back together again. All in all, it took me about an hour and a half, and that included looking for wrenches, moving things out of the way and checking the garage door for proper operation. The product looks to be good quality in good shape. Everything fit exactly as desired.

Easy to Install Replacement Gear Assembly (I’ve included some installation tips)
This “Liftmaster Gear Kit” had everything I needed (and then some) to fix my LiftMaster Professional Model 3265 garage door opener. Both the washer above and below the top sprocket gear that rotates the chain had become worn-out and broke, so the gear would wobble and the chain would come off. Replacing the entire “top-hat assembly” was not too difficult and it worked perfectly. NOTE: To thread the Top-Cap/Top-Hat holes: Place the Top-Hat into a vise. Take one of the old 5/16th screws (you removed from the old top-hat) and lubricate the threads with some of the included grease (WD40 or 3-in-1 oil would probably also work). The screws have a hex-head so take a handheld screwdriver with removable tip and remove the tip and then place the screwdriver directly on the hex-head screw and manually turn it (force it) into the unthreaded hole on the top-hat. Back out the screw and repeat. It was fairly easy to do and didn’t take me long. NOTE: Adjust the gear timing: Before re-installing the chain, make sure you first adjust the gear timing. To do this, make sure your garage door is off the trolley, and place your garage door in the fully down position. Then plug-in your opener and push the button (with the chain still off). If the top gear turns counter-clockwise, then push the opener button again, until the gear turns clockwise and stops spinning on its own (a complete down cycle). Then, unplug your garage door opener and turn the chain by hand (with gloves) to re-attach the trolley. Next, attach the chain to the opener top sprocket gear, and adjust to the proper tension level. Plug in your opener and test it.

Great kit, but only use what you need.
Kit provides all that I needed for my Liftmaster opener. However, there was one thick washer that my opener didn’t have during disassembly. I used it anyway, but it caused the RPM sensor to fail to allow the opener to function. LED light in the back blinked 5 times to indicate this. Pulled it back apart and ONLY used the parts that matched what my opener originally had installed. Works like new and very quiet now. Could have included more thorough instructions.

All the parts I needed; working well so far
This kit had all of the parts I needed to replace the main part that was broken on my opener, as well as other wearable parts around it. The components seem to be made of the same material and of the same quality as the originals. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, given that one of the original gears shredded into dust, but they do appear to be OEM, as advertised. The installation was straightforward, after watching a few YouTube videos on the process. You'll need to have some basic repair skills, a few tools, and a desire to tackle this project in order to succeed. It's not hard, but might be a challenge if you're not used to fixing your appliances, or doing routine auto maintenance, for example. Honestly, I spent most of my time cleaning and re-lubricating the opener, tracks, trolley, door, etc. The broken gear provided a good excuse to tune everything up - and the effort paid off in substantially quieter operation. While you're up on your step ladder, attend to all of that dust and grime you see, if you have the time. I'll offer two recommendations, in case you decide to dive in without researching the process first: 1. Definitely drive the screws into that big, circular plate that holds the top of the main gear shaft BEFORE you install it into the opener (then remove them again before installing). The holes in the plate aren't threaded, so running the screws through once, ahead of time, will cut the threads you need in order to ease installation. 2. If you decide to install the worm and/or bushings, brace things appropriately and take your time. It's not rocket science, but you don't want to bend anything - including the motor shaft. Use a bench-mounted vise if you have one (the motor is heavy) and support any shafts / brackets / etc. from which you'll be pounding out bushings and pins using a block of wood. Spending a few extra minutes here is a good investment. Of course, wear safety goggles while you're hammering on things. Good luck!

Great! ready for another 20 years of great service.
great kit. my original liftmaster gears lasted ~21 years. Replacing this was about a 2 hr task (hey it was my first time and I was sick with a cold so I probably spent an hour of that blowing my nose). greasy messy job with our chain drive, but probably easier and faster to repair than to reinstall a new opener. Time and money well spent. Adequate and complete instructions included - only real challenge was that I had to lightly sand away scars on the motor shaft that retention screws had made before being able to remove bronze bushing on screw gear (yes there were obscenities involved because I broke the lip off the bushing by trying to force it over the scars ,,, a minute with 400 grit sandpaper and the problem was solved and the cursing stopped). other issue was that my old lift "resets" to the opposite state (open vs. closed) as in the instructions... but this was easily remedied by adjusting the limit screw to the opposite end. Don't panic! this is actually a pretty easy fix. door is also much quieter now too.

Works great, even earned me a free afternoon of golf!
Other than the fact that I had to spend an hour of my Saturday fixing my garage door instead of golfing, this is the best replacement pack and best way to save your old garage door opener. I have a Liftmaster Professional series that is only 10 years old, but the chain had started to slip and the gear socket popped. My wife had had enough of having to open and close the door manually, so I ordered this little kit. Replacing the socket was simple and easy, but I would recommend using YouTube to watch a couple of videos showing you exactly what you need to do to get this thing installed. It really is a simple process that should take an hour of your time or less. After getting the thing installed, I reattached the chain to the garage door opener and everything worked as it should. It was quiet, smooth, and worked like a charm. It got me out of the doghouse with the old ball and chain and even got me a free pass to go play golf for the rest of the afternoon without the guilt trip that usually comes when I try and enjoy my Saturday afternoon. All in all, this little gear socket kit is the perfect way to fix your garage door, get a free pass to play golf, and get your wife off your back!!! Highly recommended!!!!!
