Bookmatched Ironwood Knife Scales – Knife Makers Material – Size 5 1/8 x 1 3/4 x 1/2 Inches - 2 Pack

The wood scales I received look nothing like what was shown in the product listing. While they still seem like quality pieces of wood, they are aesthetically not what I was expecting.

I scored a Infidel that suffered fire damage and the polymer scales were toast and tried finding replacement scales and wasn’t able to find any, so I made my own. Very happy how it turned and the woodgrain pattern is striking

I don't normally write reviews unless there's something in it for me (at least I'm honest), but this is one of those rare moments when I think it's necessary. After scouring Amazon for knife scales and reading the reviews for them I came to a few conclusions. First, 99% are a rip off when you consider how much dimensional lumber of a majority of the same species is a fraction of the cost (I bought a 3/4x3x36 piece of cocobolo for less the most cocobolo knife scales). Second, knife scales seem to be one of the very few items on Amazon that you seem to have to pay for shipping most of the time, and it's usually as much or more than the scales, avoid them, they're scamming you. They blame amazon but then why is 98% of everything else free to ship? And based on the majority of reviews, people are getting shipped crap wood. Well lo and behold, I ordered what is said to be bookmatched iron wood knife scales for a price that's half the cost of most others. So, after less than 24 hours I received an absolutely beautiful pair of bookmatched ironwood scales, 5 1/8 long, 1 3/4 wide and 9/16 thick. They're smooth, flat, symmetrical and most importantly, they're everything they are advertised to be.

Two stars on the original scales I received that are COMPLETELY STRAIGHT GRAINED and have a botched up saw cut that was made when they were separated that would cause me to have to plane off 25% of the surface to get them flat enough to mount to the knife without a gap. If I didn't need these for a project I would send them back..... On second thought I think I will send them back and try one more time. Last try boys better get it right this time or you will get a 1 star rating.Just got my second set of scales and they are beautiful and I can manage to make a good looking knife out of them

Scales had good figuring, not really bookmarked. Usable though.
