Formed in 1972 by former Colosseum keyboard player Dave Greenslade, the band also featured former Web and Samurai member Dave Lawson (keyboards, vocals), former Colosseum bass player Tony Reeves and drummer Andrew McCulloch (formerly with King Crimson and Fields). The calibre of the members of Greenslade ensured that the group would be innovative, ground breaking and dynamic in their musical approach and would also be notable due to the absence of a guitarist within their ranks. Originally issued in February 1973, "Greenslade" was a fine debut album and featured such future classic compositions as 'Feathered Friends', 'Melange', 'Drowning Man' and 'Sundance'.Considered by many to be a band at their finest on stage, this expanded edition of "Greenslade" includes a bonus CD of recordings made for BBC Radio One between January and April 1973, offering a glimpse of the excellence of the band in a live environment and released for the very first time. This Esoteric Recordings expanded edition has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an illustrated booklet with many rare cuttings and includes an essay by Malcolm Dome and exclusive interviews with Dave Greenslade and Dave Lawson.

review of 2 disc expanded version.
The original album is as is,no bonus tracks adding to it's 40 minutes. The 2nd c.d.lasts 4 minutes longer with 6 of the album tracks live,no "What are you doing to me" but 2 of "Feathered Friends". Inevitably the booklet is a nice shade of green, with some of original l.p.artwork,new writing on the band & some archive photo's,publicity & magazine articles. It took me a while to get into them re the vocals back in the day but live shows reeled me in. Of course two keyboards got me "air playing",but the bass playing & percussion merit applause for giving unique rhythms. The sound is suitably beefed up for this release.EXCELLENT

Greenslade 2018 deluxe edition.
I have managed to miss out on this band for 40 odd years, always assumed they were a poor mans Yes/Genesis ... how wrong i was and ultimately my loss. After a casual conversation with a work colleague i thought i'd give this a chance, wow superb music.Disc 1 the original album, cant compare the sound quality to what went before but this sounds excellent, naturally the keyboards are to the fore but i'm getting a real kick out of the Bass playing underpinning everything. The vocals wont be too everyone's taste but he's in there with Peter Gabriel,Jon Anderson and Tull's Ian Anderson you either like it or you dont. best track? choose from the bouncy upbeat 'Feathered Friends' or the prog tastic 'Melange'.Disc 2 combines tracks from sounds of the 70's and BBC in Concert, excellent quality nothing spectacular the band stick rigidly to the studio versions and show off their musical prowess by replicating the studio work perfectly.Excellent disc, superb packaging and informative liner notes in the booklet.. ...and it always was a great sleeve.I may need to invest in the other reissues.

Fab dual keyboard prog!
Good tunes in a dual keyboard no guitar prog style, but without all the bombast. A mix of songs and instrumentals. 'Feathered Friends' a brilliant tale of eco collapse.

Decent remaster with good extras
Bit disappointed with this remaster a couple of organ solos completely missin on this remaster.lying on the settee listening i stood up wondering whether my hi fi sytem most strange ! Even so worthwhile for the majority of it. The artwork as always is extra spe cial and the sleevenotes add useful information i was never aware of . I will of course buy all 4 remasters even so this ones a bit flawed.
