The author has the tone of a strict headteacher but is reassuring and confident in her methods. There are some outdated references in the book (hey, it’s 60 odd years old…) but it is easy to identify and disregard these. The core messages are absolutely still valid. It is bizarre that this book, written by an Australian GP in the 1960s has turned out to be the best resource on anxiety I’ve found - by an absolute mile - and in my opinion, a copy of this book should be the first line treatment for anxiety in primary healthcare across the world. However much popularity this book has, it isn’t enough. It hasn’t made my anxiety go away overnight but it’s made me lose my fear of my anxiety and some of my symptoms have definitely gone/disappeared. Whilst I still feel anxious/depressed sometimes, I feel ‘at peace’ with my situation now, and I have an optimism about the future that I haven’t had for a long time. If you struggle with anxiety and are prepared to do the work to get better, buy this book. It’s not easy and will take some time but it just works. Review: Interesting. - Helpful read.

Best thing I have ever read
This book has basically given me my life back. My anxiety an nerves were really bad. Came out of no where an hit me like a ton of bricks. I have always been outgoing the life an soul of the party then June 2023 I started to feel panicy. Dr gave me Sertraline. Made my anxiety even worse. Didn't want to leave the house. Palpitations made me panic more. Then someone mentioned this book an how it helped them. I can honestly say it's been a life saver. Simple to understand. I have purchased another 2 books to give to friends who I know suffer with anxiety. It explains why we get nervous an anxious but also goes through all the symptoms that come along side anxiety an why they happen i.e nervous tummy, Palpitations, headaches etc. Once you realize why these things happen the fear caused by them (which adds to the anxiety) goes away. I highly recommend this book. Even if you are taking tablets this book is still a brilliant read. Who knows you might even beable to come off the tablets in time. Im weaning myself off mine because this book has helped me tremendously. I hope it does you as I know how terrible an frightening anxiety can be.

Life changing
As this book was written some time ago I was dubious out the methods and language used. Boy was I wrong. This book has single handedly helped reshape the way I think about my anxiety and the way I process and accept it. I've been in therapy for 7 years and this book has been more effective and groundbreaking than most of the tools used in therapy. (Therapy is great to have someone to talk to. You can't replace that) but to have this at home to remind myself and revise when I need it? Priceless, I'm so grateful to the Dr for her work and more importantly her hope. A must buy

A boon for all of us.
Anything by Claire Weekes is a god send. If only she were still with us, but here books are easily available and so too are the audio. If you have ever felt you need to go to a doctor, psychiatrist or counsellor and that everyone says you have had a 'nervous breakdown' or 'pull yourself together' just read or listen to her words of wisdom. She was doing CBT long before it was a buzz word and it cost money to see people about it. She makes you feel normal, she is down to earth but motherly and is so wise. Throw away or give all your number of books to someone else and just keep these. You will be on the road to 'recovery' from whatever ails you. It take much courage and belief and the best will come, slowly with ups and down but all is there in her books and in the audios.

Brilliant
Helped me through a very difficult time and gave me a great understanding of why my body was reacting the way it was with all the scary symptoms, clare weeks is so understanding and after reading the first few pages it was as if she was talking privately to me, it made me cry with relief that someone understood, so there is help out there, give it a go hopefully it will be your comfort blanket like it was mine on the road to recovery from this interruption in your life, happy healing 😊

In my opinion, this book is the epitome and magnum opus of all books written on anxiety. This book won't be of any help to those who suffer from regular or healthy amounts of anxiety, but those who suffer from an actual disorder such as general anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and/or any type of phobia will GREATLY benefit from this book. This book gives you the literal key into how to cure yourself of all of these mental health issues, regardless of people's claims that some if not most are chronic. Absolutely life changing - if you're ready to fully recover from whatever it is you suffer from, read this book.

The first 40% of this book is good with some valid points to guide you, however the rest is very outdated being written in the early 60's, Dr Weekes refers to electric shock treatment and taking sedatives on a regular basis together with staying in bed for days at a time. Also if you are living on your own and do not have much or any family this book is Not for you, there are much better books on the market from the 2020's to now. Summing-up i don't recommend this read.

Content is great, you will surely get to know about anxiety and how to get recovery from it. I applied techniques which is described in book seems like working. I am happy ready this finally I got hope of recovery.
