Home Recording: Need-To-Know Essentials To Improve Your Mixes

I took two courses with Bob and this book is used quite a bit. In simple terms he explains exactly what a beginner needs to know. We referenced it frequently and its extremely well written and the pictures are perfect. He explains the common pitfalls and helps tell and show you what is really important. You get a link to listen to audio files that help you understand what is being explained in the book.

This book is great for beginner or intermediate home recorders. It's been a very useful resource and I still reference it all the time. I'd also recommend the courses the author teaches at nhtunes in Manchester, NH. He's a very plain spoken and straight forward teacher and his experience working in a studio environment really shines through. Highly recommended!

This book is fantastic. Easy to read, easy to understand. It is obvious the author is a professional, and knows how to 'do', as well as 'teach'. Two thumbs up for the book and author.

If you'd like to significantly improve the sound of your home recordings, this is definitely the book to buy!

I purchased this book for an audio engineering course I’m currently taking with Bob. I wish that it had been the first book I looked into when I got into recording. It’s a short easy read. Bob explains everything in a way that a “newbie” can comprehend. Don’t let that fool you though it’s loaded with tons useful information. It covers room treatment, mics, preamps, compression, reverb, delay, mixing, mastering etc. There is also an interactive feature(nhtunes.biz) where you can listen to the comparisons on certain gear and or other recording practices. One of which is a comparison between a budget mic and a boutique. That alone is worth the ten bucks! If you are new to recording this book will help you tremendously.. I’ve paid more for other books that didn’t share as much insight
