Will this work to hook up printer to laptop? my ethernet out is used for cable modem connection.

No! This is not a Ethernet cable. While the one end of the plug is similar to Ethernet, it's not the same. It's really a USB cable with a similar plug to Ethernet that plugs into a APC USB device. Why APC went with this type of connection on some of their UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) units I don't know. How you came across this cable, I don't know. You sure can't just Plug a Ethernet device directly into a USB port. It's not remotely close.Your best bet is to get a Router. This will create your own Private Network. You would then plug your cable modem into the Router, and then you can plug your Ethernet Printer into one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the Router, and your Laptop in the Back of the Router for a wired connection. If your laptop supports Wifi, and you get a Wifi capable Router, You don't need to plug your Laptop into the Router, you can be wireless and move around your place. You leave your Router, Cable Modem and Printer at the current location plugged in. You'll still be able to print to your printer even wireless. You don't need to spend a bunch of money on a Wifi Router. If you don't need wireless, a cheaper wired only router will work just fine also. What a Router does is take that 1 IP address your ISP (Comcast, AT&T, whoever) gives you and your Cable Modem, something like 107.25.254.55 and creates a Private Network for you and your different hardware. This allows more then 1 Computer to access your Internet. Generally your devices will now have a IP of 192.168.0.1, and 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on. This is one of the Reserved IP address used for Routers. 10.0.0.1 is another, but 192 is far more popular. So your PC would be 192.168.0.2 because generally the Router will assign it's self as 192.168.0.1. Your Printer may end up 192.168.0.3. If you go Wifi with the Router, now your Smartphone or tablet can also connect to your Cable connection and they'll also be assigned their own IP number on your private Network. It opens the world up for you. Then yo can just get some normal Ethernet Patch cables. They'll have the same plug on both ends. Any other questions just ask!

It suppose to be 10 pin RJ50, not 8 pin RJ45 connector.

It's an RJ 45 on one end but with only two pair of wires (4 total) inside, not the usual 4 pair Ethernet - the other end is regular USB connector to connect to computer. The APC's before this used a Serial port connecter to the computer with an RJ 45 to the UPC unit. Double check your product documentation to make sure you get the right one for your unit - you can download the docs at APC .com

How long is this cable? I need longer than 6 ft. Maybe I just need an extention rj 45 cable?

if you search for RJ45 cables by the length you need (i.e. 15 foot RJ45 cable in electronics), you'll find what you want

Can i use this to upgrade the firmware on my apc smt 750?

No, for additional options like firmware upgrades you would need the 940-0024 series of smart signaling cables. This is a simple signaling cable and has limited access to the UPS.

Cable works great - Make sure your devices power settings don't change

The cable works great but I feel I need to say that the APC I have showed up as a battery on my desktop computer that messed with my power settings. If you have USB disconnections or other odd behavior after plugging it into a windows machine it is not the cable, it is windows. Don't blame the cable.

This cable let my APC ES750 communicate with my UnRAID server. Everything appears to be working perfectly.

Does NOT connect APC power backup to my computer the APC connector is not RJ12 or 11

Don't waste your money this cable can't connect an APC power backup to the APC monitoring app on your computer. It's possible this cable could connect your APC to your network but it definitely won't connect your PC to the APC power backup

APC USB Cable (AP9827)

Exactly what I needed .Installed PowerChute Personal Edition and it communicated perfectly with the UPS ( running Windows 7 32-bit ).Only downside is the batteries that I thought were good did'nt provide enough backup power when I did a simulated power failure .I still do'nt understand why APC does'nt offer the cable on the site .Anyway their loss is AMAZONS' gain.UPDATE MARCH 5TH , 2012 :simulated a power failure while running PowerChute Personal Edition and I only got 5 mins at full load .This did'nt make ANY sense cause their are 4 batteries on this UPS ( 2 internal 2 external ) .So I uninstalled PowerChute and just simulated a power failure using the windows system tray power icon as a guide to "time left " and I was able to use the system for a lot longer .APC's software has failed me in the past so those of you using the software try my experiment and compare results , I suspect you will be surprised .

Works fine

This is a very utilitarian object, connecting my Back-UPS ES 750 to my Mac Pro. It appears to work according to the Mac System Preferences, though I have not had a power outage to test it in operation.

APC RJ50 Socket

Well I bought a used APC BR1500LCD from Ebay but it had no data cable.On the product manual the APC to PC outlet is described as an RJ45 socket, which it is not. It is a 10 pin RJ50. The sole purpose of using an obscure network cable to supply a USB feed seems to be to prevent you from using anything but APCs proprietary cable.I had resigned myself to making up special cable when I found a link to this item.I loaded the Powerchute PC software today and this cable works perfectly.Teach APC a lesson and buy this cable.You could take the back off the APC and wire a USB socket directly to the board, but for less than $10 just buy this cable.

APC ES500とTera Station（TS-XEL/R5シリーズ）で使用

APC ES500とTera Stationの電源連動用に購入。APC ES500には付属のUSBがあったみたいですが紛失してしまったのでこちらを購入しました。Tera Station側にUSB接続、UPS側はインターフェースに差し込み、Tera StationのコントロールパネルでUPS連動をチェックするだけの簡単設定でした。

Macht beim Win10 pc und einem DSM NAS das was es soll. PC mit APC gekoppelt - USV lässt sich verwalten und aktiviert shutdown - NAS mit APC gekoppelt, NAS geht nach eingestellter Zeit in sicheren Modus.
