Cool Robots (Sean Kenney's Cool Creations)

My 8 and 6 year olds love this!
We have a bunch of mismatched legos and my son saw a similar book of ideas for legos that he wanted. Sometimes he gets frustrated when he can't find the piece he needs to make something, but we LOVE this book because it has some step by step but it is mostly just ideas for lego creations large and mostly small... so you can build or use the ideas in the book as a starting point for your own creations. The mix of big and small projects provides the right blend of inspiration and doable with whatever lego set you have available (so unlike some books, you do not need tons of legos available to make the projects in this book). Also, the projects use legos in unexpected ways, so the creations look really unique and fit well into my kids' robot stories. Recommend for lego and robot fans!

Finally a Lego book that teaches you how to build!
My 6 year old son is a lego fanatic and doens't really need help with "ideas" as many of the lego books out there provide. What he needs is some help figuring out HOW to make his ideas happen. This book does just that. It helps him think outside the box and create things that look different from traditional lego contruction - Kenney uses lego pieces differntly than the lego manufacturers do. We have all his books and they are regularly open on the lego table helping to inspire my son to create new and interesting things. Thanks Sean Kenney!

Exactly what I wanted
Bought this for my 10 year old nephew, who has every set of Legos imaginable. Of all the gifts he received at his birthday, he kept going back to this book and another similar Lego book I bought him. He left the other toys laying and sat in a chair, eyes eagerly pouring over every page...talking about which of these robots he was going to build. My gift was the big deal of the day, which is awesome because I'm the Auntie who lives in another state and I only get to see him a few times a year. :-)

Too many odd pieces
We had high hopes for this book. We have 1000s of legos and needed a resource for putting them together in new ways. Sadly, this book uses so many odd pieces that it you spend lots of time looking through your box of legos to find a single piece to make the object in the book. When you find you do not have it, you have to abandon the plan and turn the page. Perhaps the book should be accompanied with a set of odd pieces that make every project work!

Specialty pieces
The book itself is fine. The problem is that it requires specialty pieces we didn't have. 5 yr olds don't understand that well. A 7 or 8 yr old would be able to adapt - it would give them good ideas.

neat idea
My grandson has aspburgers and it takes something to hold his attention. He likes putting things together but no imagination. He follows directions well but can't come up with an idea on his own. He loved this.

Great for robot lovers.
I borrowed this book from the library and my kiddo fell in love with it. After incurring overdue fines I decided to just buy the book. Happiness reigns.

It was amazing!
This book stimulated hours of creativity. This book will prevent the overuse of your vacuum! We used bits and pieces we had laying around to construct the robots. Sometimes we had to substitute other pieces than were required. Our creations may not have been as exquisite as Mr. Kenney's but were just as creative. The hunt for the variation parts was also very fun and challenging.
