Don't buy. It will die.
Other reviews don't lie! This drive SUCKS. Totally died on me after only a short period of time. Just now went to pull out a drive I no longer use to put in a friends laptop. Came across this and just looked it up on Amazon just to see if by some chance it was still for sale. SHAMEFUL that OCZ AND AMAZON still have this series available for sale. If you do your research you will not find a name brand with worse reviews than OCZ SSD drives. Has ruined for me the good rep they once owned. Would NEVER buy another product from them again......and the main reason isn't because this drive failed so miserably. I understand that could happen with a product. It's the fact that they continue to make it AND still sell it to unsuspecting customers that makes me realize they can't be trusted. Sadly, an average of 3 out of 5 stars (or less in some cases) for a hard drive is not acceptable.

Great when it worked. Not recognized 75% of the time. Finally died.
I bought this SSD to make it my primary, boot, Windows drive to speed up my computer. The difference in my computer's performance (boot time, application launch time, etc.) was amazing! The problem: the drive was very inconsistently recognized by my ASUS H87M PLUS motherboard. This meant that every time I had to reboot, it would take between 2 and 5 tries of restarting until the drive was recognized. The rest of the times the SATA port showed as empty, therefore I had no boot drive and had to power off or do Ctrl-Alt-Del to try again until I got lucky. And yes, I tried every possible hardware and software setting and solution found online, since this is a very well documented issue with these drives.Since I keep my computer on most of the time, I could live with this problem, which only came up when I had to restart for any reason. I lived with this situation for exactly 4 years, until just under 2 weeks ago, when the drive seemed to finally die. Luckily, I had all my personal files and data on other drives, as this was only the boot/Windows drive with some of my applications installed on it, too. However, and because I failed to have proper back ups, I had to purchase another drive and go through the painful process of re-installing every single application I had before. I lost preferences and settings for most of those applications, which is a pain in the rear end (all that is my fault for not having backed up the drive). I tried the drive on 3 other computers and the result is always the same: the computer does not detect it at all, even though the green light that can be seen inside the drive lights up. I tried several reset methods suggested online (leaving the drive uplugged for a few hours, a day, pluggin only the data cable for a while, only the power cable for a while, etc.) to no avail. So I now own a OCZ brick. I am disappointed that it failed in just 4 years. I have drives much older than that and that get a lot more use and they are still running. The new drive I purchased is a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB and, since I installed it, it has worked beautifully. During the installation process for Windows and all my apps my PC has rebooted at least 40-50 times and not once has the drive not been recognized by the motherboard. This tells me that the issue was always with the OCZ drive, not my motherboard or settings.I cannot recommend this drive, but I 100% recommend switching to an SSD for your boot drive, and Samsung has my vote, so far.

DO NOT RISK IT, likely to fail.
UPDATE:It's official! All three OCZ drives I have used are now all dead. That is just downright unacceptable for a piece of technology at this price. Wish my first failed early on so I didnt purchase more from OCZ. I have an intel that has outlasted all three OCZ's. OCZ has officially lost all of my business I dont care if its a cheap stick of RAM.First off I am very technical, I am not quick to pass judgement and believe I am very fair in reviewing a product. Unfortunately I am the owner or have owned 3 OCZ branded SDD's. To this date the only survivor is the first one i ever bought, a 32GB Core series. I purchased this 120GB Vertex 2 to run my operating system on a Win7 64 bit build and 1 year later it has failed. It failed in the middle of preparing my o=mortgage documents and I hadn't the chance to backup a few documents yet. These drives to not give warning, they just literally go out like a light. At least with a platter drive you can most likely pull it and recover data before it dies.Yes these drives are FAST but so are the ones from intel, crucail, kingston etc...One look at OCZ forums or these Amazon reviews shows a horrible fact that these drives fail constantly and more over OCZ refuses to acknowledge that they have put out a lemon product. They do not show remorse, they give condescending remarks to the consumer when they complain, and they simply say" send it back so we can send you a new one that will probably fail as well". And yes you must pay to ship it, and from what it looks like on their forums it is a lengthy process. In my complaint on their forum I was giving them my displeasure and with no restricted verbage or anything, they closed the thread and locked it. This company will not stand by its name and admit they have sold an expensive brick for the last two years. They simply and literally without remorse say :oh well, send it back".It just is not worth the time, money, and effort to use this drive for a few months or a year and then lose everyhting you didn't have a chance to back up, and that have to deal with these people to send it for a replacement. I have NEVER used a product that was so certain to fail. I wish I was reading this review now and not writing it. I bought it when it just came out. Spend the extra dime or two and go with an intel. You'll save yourself so many headaches down the road. Good luck,

OCZ Vertex 2 60gb solid state drive
The OCZ Vertex 2 60gb seemed a lot of money but the performance is amazing,i installed windows 7 has a fresh install,it installed in 6 minutes compared to 14 minutes with my old hard drive, all the performance scores have gone upto in the mid 7s at first the benchmark for the vertex was write-95mb-read speed 115mbi went on the vertex site and updated the firmware on the vertex drive,it now reads 160mb write-and 265mb read some programs now seemto open instantly, the only problem is if you mess with the windows settings too much, the boot drive on the vertex 2 becomes corrupt and it wontboot it says [no hard drive] or [boot manager missing]NO PROBLEM just bootup from your windows disk as if you are doing a fresh install, when itsays install, just click on repair tab [bottom left hand corner of screen]thats it, when finished remove disc [first] then restart [job done]if you dont mess with the settings too much, the problem shouldnt happen in the first place,i now have my old drive 1tb in size as drive E andstore all my large files on that,so the vertex size 60gb is no problem has i use it to run windows and store medium sized files,Has for relibiltyi dont know ive only had it 2 months, but its still blazing along, and silent.

Speedy
This Sandforce controlled drive is a lot better than the Indilinx controlled Vertex 1, of which I had 2 that went faulty in the period of a year due to fried controllers. The drive alone is faster reading and writing than my old 10k rpm WD Raptors that were running in RAID0.I purchased another of these drives with the intention of running in RAID0, however as TRIM is not supported in a RAID environment, system slowdowns were noticeable within about a week of installing the OS. In only the second week boot times were longer and freezing at the desktop was observed. Original speed was blisteringly quick after initial install, but having to re-image every week is highly impractical.Overall I would recommend this as a boot and applications drive for most. Personally I am using one of these as a boot drive and the other for applications, the rest of my music etc is on a 1TB networked NAS drive.

Easy to install - and lightening quick
Being a relative novice at hardware upgrades, I opened my PC up with some trepidation to install the OCZ drive.I needn't have worried - the drive slots in really quickly with the supplied bracket and plugging it in was simple (my motherboard supports SATA rather than SATA II, but this wasn't an issue). My PC recognised the drive straight away and I was able to install Windows with the minimum of fuss.It makes a great difference in boot up time (roughly half what it was before) and when opening programmes - I've only tried the basics so far, but iTunes loads in around 2 seconds (it was closer to 20 before) and any Office program appears instantly.I'm therefore very satisfied and happy to recommend it to anybody to use as a system disk - when the price comes down on the larger sizes I will be upgrading my storage drive too and will definitely consider OCZ.

Much better than Vertex 3 and less cost
If you're shopping for an SSD then let me save you some pain and trouble. I've had 3 Vertex 3 SSD drives ... yup 3 of them and every single one of them has wrapped it's hand in due to heat issues. My PC runs in a fairly warm 22C ambient temp and the case is a skeleton so there's no special cooling going on. Never the less. For me to have 3 failures was extremely annoying and frustrating. I finally agreed with Amazon that I'd try a Vertex 2 240Gb drive for the same price as my Vertex 3 (they offered a direct swap) Well I can honestly say it was a brilliant move. The Vertex 2 is totally reliable, no problems since day dot and, most importantly, even with the increased capacity I find I have not noticed a slow down in boot sequence etc. from the Vertex 3. On paper it says it should be quicker but I can't notice any differece on a boot up. No more bleeding edge technology for me. Vertex 2 all the way for my PC builds from now on.

Too good to be true
I did some research before buying this drive and although I was concerned about reliability from other reviews, I decided to go for it.The drive performed very well until it failed. I replaced a 5400rpm SATA in a laptop so noticed a huge difference. Of course it was silent and generated less heat. Battery life was improved and the fan ran less in my laptop. I was very happy. Two months later, the drive failed catastrophically and I lost all my data. Even with good backups, the inconvenience when this happens is huge. To make matters worse, the experience I had with the OCZ support was poor. It is a ticket based system where you deal with a remote technician via messages posted on a web page. On average, they take 1-2 days to get back to each message that I post. The final insult, I have to pay to ship the broken drive to the Netherlands before it can be replaced.I strongly advise you stay well clear of these because your hard disk is such an important part of your computer, you need to trust it is reliable and you need to know that if you have a problem, you can easily resolve it.

Small capacity, small price, huge performance
SSDs have stunning performance, much, much faster than any hard drive. If you want to increase the speed your PC reads and writes data but do not have a massive budget you can buy a smaller SSD like this one and a decent standard HDD like this one: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1 TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Disk Drive Install you're operating system on the SSD and install you're games and on the larger HDD. (Games do not gain much FPS from SSDs, loading times are reduced to a flash however)Other files like pictures and music are fine on the HDD to. Because the operating system and drivers are on the SSD you get a remarkable boost in overall performance. This drive does have one black mark against however, its maximum data transfer rate is only 3 Gbit/s. A mechanical drive wouldnt be limited by this but SSDs can be, I did not notice at the time of purchase and I just assumed it would be SATA 3 with 6 Gbit/second. It still provides a huge performance boost over a hard drive. Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1 TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Disk Drive

Warp speed for your Macbook
After being tired of hearing people saying how much faster their computers were after installing an SSD I decided to finally go for the jump. At first, after a friend suggested the Kingston SSDNow V+ 100 I really considered buying it since it was so cheap at Amazon at the time. However, after looking at some benchmarks, the OCZ Vertex series felt more like the best option.I settled for the OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SATA II 2.5-inch Internal Solid State Drive and after a simple installation and a clean install (which was long overdue) I was really amazed at the performance difference. It's not only the time it takes to boot, it's the (not so) little differences across the entire OS. Applications now open instantly. And you know that time it takes to open a folder on Finder that is not that long but it's long enough for you to notice that it's there? Well, now it isn't. Or how quicker Spotlight and Alfred are that you can actually call them productivity tools now? It's that amazing. Overall, it's a new world of responsiveness that makes you feel like you just bought a new computer.Go for it! Really! This was definitely the best investment on any computer that I've made so far. awesome so fast !
my raptor was pretty much dying so i decided to get this and its the best decision i made ever ! unbelievably fast boot time and launching of apps !had to fiddle a bit with the bios (and windows) to get ahci mode running which gave me an even greater performance boost ! thessdreview.com optimisation guide is great !!!im running a kinda old system 2.4 quadcore q6600, msi p35 neo2 fr sata II, 6gb ddr2, 9600gt but its still running brilliant !delivery was fast, 3-4 days arrived on a saturday, postie just dropped the drive through the letter box lol got to keep reminding myself these have no moving parts so they can take a whack or two ...windows experience score of 7.7 for the primary hard disk !!!! kicks ass on ATTO disk benchmark too with read/write scores over 250mb ! hd tune and hd tune pro kinda inconsistant everytime i run them but normally average 228.2 mb ish for me.space wise not really a big deal for me since i have a 2tb hdd drive aswell and ive had a small primary disk (wd raptor) for years anyway, definetly do able if u use unbloated apps with a smaller footprint (e.g. microsoft security essentials as the AV)upgrading to ssd is definelty on par with if not better than a memory upgrade (recently upgraded from 2gb to 6gb) and i really would recommend both in older systems if the price is right, otherwise save ur pennies and build a new pc with sata 3 ssd !

Useless Item! Spend more for better
Rubbish product. I wish i read other reviews before buying. Got this item and from the start it had not worked. tried on PC and laptop with no joy. Will not show in windows or BIOS it's as if i had never connected it! I would save more money up and buy one tried and tested to be a good one as if you are a lucky person that gets one of these that does work it could fail at ainy time according to other revews. This could mean important data will be lost forever!IMO buy one of the better brands.

Failed after four months
The improvement in speed after installing the SSD was more than I expected; from booting the machine to shutting it down again, all waiting was reduced to a fraction of when using the old drive. Until one day, four months after installing it, the laptop would no longer boot and the disk was unrecognised. Plugging the disk into another machine and using the OCZ Toolbox utility it still wasn't recognised, with a return to OCZ to only alternative. The numerous seconds (and then some) the disk saved throughout is short life were then wasted reinstalling software, retrieving backups, and dealing with licensing issues (since a disk failure like this doesn't allow for doing a license transfer with software like Maya, etc.).

FAILURE.
This drive has died 3 times so far, I have no faith buying from OCZ again, not just for the failure rate but the poor service.I have no chance of getting any money back from this purchase as I've owned it for longer than 30 days and OCZ wouldn't cover the cost of sending the broken drives to be replaced which wasn't cheap. The performance from the drive was great... while it lived it's short life.

Awesome customer service great product.
I was using this drive for a while and it was brilliant. Shortly after the warranty ran out I had a problem where the drive would not boot anymore. I was lost as to what to do as I didn’t fancy buying another drive. I contacted customer support via email and received a reply from Steven Cheng, who is willing to help me even though my product is out of warranty! Result! The drive is going to be serviced and be back up and running. Awesome!

Excellent purchase!
Bought this as an upgrade to the PC - best decision ever! Windows Index for the drive now on 7.2 (was 5.9 for my old Samsung F3). Boot time is 27 secs, iTunes opens in under a second, Photoshop CS5.1 in 4 secs. This thing is very fast!I used Acronis to copy my existing C drive onto the new SSD - [...]Was an effortless transfer so props to Acronis for making such a good product! Also definitely read this: [...] - very useful stuff there.#Buy it now!

This has transformed my old laptop
SSD drives are just fantastic: they speed your computer up your program loading times by 5 to 10 times depending on the program, and restarting the computer happens in no time at all. It's great!I have had this hard drive for over a year now and it has served me very well so far. My only complaint is that it sometimes freezes up completely, and for my old Mac Book that had never happened before this drive. It has happened about half a dozen times in the times that I have owned it, so it's not too bad, but it is something to keep in mind.

Unit failed after 18 Months
This unit failed after 18 months the company I bought it from which was saverstore did not want to know e-mailed me "you will have to deal with OCZ for warranties, after getting in touch with OCZ I had to pay for return which will not be refunded, this I did after two weeks I got refurbished warranty unit back after contacting OCZ who could not be less interested in sorting this out would not do anything about replacing the unit, at no time when buying this drive was I told if the unit failed I would get a second hand unit as a replacement. SO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING ANY OCZ HARD DRIVES THEN DON'T CHECK OUT HOW MANY HAVE FAILED & WHEN IT DOES FAIL IT COST YOU TO SEND IT BACK ALSO YOU GET A REFURBISHED SECOND HAND WARRANTY UNIT TO REPLACE IT... i WILL NEVER BUY OR EVEN ADVICE ANYONE TO BUY A OCZ PRODUCT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED DON'T BUY THIS UNIT OR ANY OTHER SSD FROM OCZ
