Good real-life information
I got this book because I have always liked the garden makeovers in "Ground Force", a BBC show hosted by Alan Titchmarsh. They deal with average-size gardens, not the extensive acreage of the "rich & famous". Since we have a small back courtyard space, this book was useful for inspiration.

Useful little book
This appears to be part of a series of mini books from a UK garden series starring Alan Titchmarsh. I found it informative and the photos very helpful. A very nice book for quick inspiration with good tips and insights.

Love it!
Fun little paperback that is part of the "How to Garden" series put out by the BBC. Alan does a wonderful job explaining and reducing some basic gardening designs into an informal and easy to understand format. Some books get caught up with Latin names and are laborious to read. He has an easy writing style, gets right to the point, and makes useful suggestions without coming across as a know it all. Very informative.

excellent book
everybody likes to have a garden, but what do you do when you only have a small amount of space available? Well, thanks to Alan Tichtmarsh you now know exactly what to do. This book tells you everything you need to know about what to plant/grow, when and how to do it with plenty of illustrations and easy to follow instructions. it also contains suggestions for various types/themes of gardens and it has instructions on how to build a variety of wooden structures to augment your garden. They too are easy to follow and you do not need to be a professional builder/carpenter to build them. For the beginner its a great book and for the seasoned gardener its an excellent reference book which might also provide new ideas for designs and projects. Its great value for money.

A bit of a disappointment
My main concern about this book, which led to giving 3 stars rather than 4, is the author's definition of a small garden as being the size of a tennis court. In the real world that would be actually quite a large garden in modern houses. The information is both full and accurate as you would expect from Alan Titchmarsh. There are lots of planting suggestions.

If you only buy one book on small gardens, this is it!
A comprehensive guide to small gardens. Full of ideas and inspiration which is exactly what I wanted to kick start my small garden project. Well worth the money as I will use this as a reference guide to complete my front and rear garden and any future gardens I take on.

Great
I bought several books on small gardens to help get ideas for a 'blank slate' garden in my new house, and I thought this was the best. It is full of practical suggestions and takes a step by step approach to the process of designing a new garden which I found really helpful. I think both experienced and novice gardeners would get something out of it. The only thing I can fault is that the sample designs of gardens are all based on a garden 33x26 feet in size. I would have liked to see sample plans for gardens of different sizes, particularly for urban gardens that tend to be much longer than they are wide.
