Battery leakage destroyed the old Radio Shack AM/FM/SW radio that I'd have for more than twenty five years. I researched these radios for several weeks before deciding on this little Tecsun DR-920C. When I say little I mean its LITTLE! But even though it's small its big on performance. I mainly listen to AM radio programs and this thing performs really well on AM. The internal antenna is adequate for an station with a reasonable signal. The FM is fine for local stations. What surprised me was the performance on SW. I didn't expect much at all, especially with just the telescopic whip antenna, but it actually worked pretty well. I am adding the roll up wire antenna for good measure and can't wait to see how it performs with that. For an emergency radio this thing is awesome. It's tiny enough to fit into a backpack or go bag type thing. It runs on only two AA batteries so keeping it powered is easy. The radio is super easy to operate. No need to learn a bunch of menus. I like that there are actual switches for functions rather than menus. Menus give me a headache, especially when you don't use the radio often. The plastic body of the radio is as rugged as my old one, although it wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone would make a radio like this but in a tougher body designed for a little rough handling.Over all, if you need a small and very functional radio for emergency use, or even casual listening then this is a great choice.

Excellent radio for the price!! However instruction for the radio are lacking.
The Tecsun DR-920C is a great radio. A great radio for listening to AM, FM and Shortwave signals. I have 3 other Tecsun radios, so I have become very knowledgeable about their radios. I would say that the Tecsun line of radios arehave earned a reputation of being very good radios. I put the Dr-920C in a radio to radio comparison for sensitivity, and selectivity to the Tecsun PL-606. The 606 sells for almost twice the price of the 920 and has more features. A bigdifference between the radios; the 606 is a Digital Signal Processing--DSP radio, the 920 is a super-hetrodyne dualconversion radio. The 920 is more of a analog radio from a tuning stand point with a digital indicator. The conditions for this test was about 4pm in the afternoon, temperature about 85 degrees with about 20 percenthumid. The reason I mention the conditions, time of day, temperature and humid, they can greatly affect thepropagation of radio waves. As an example we have one station located in our area that is a low powered translator station of 10 watts. The reception is considered a fringe area or an area that is difficult to receive thisstation. During dry warm weather, this station is received fairly well by the Tecsun DSP radios. In cooler damp weather the station is still received but at a much lower level. Results of my comparison.... the 920 picked up as many AM stations as the 606, 31 stations. The 920 picked up 44 FM stations and the 606, 47 FM stations. The 920 picked up 19 shortwave stations, the 606 picked up the same number. Here a 25 dollar radio can compete with a 40 dollar radio on sensitivity. The 606 had better selectivity (the ability to rejectunwanted signals) than the 920 due to being a DSP radio. I would still rate the 920 as having good selectivity. For the money DR-920C is a good value. The radio operation is pretty intuitive. You put the batteries in and you are good to for radio listening. The instruction manual for setting the alarm and time setting are lacking. I followed the instuctions as givenEXACTLY, I could not set the alarm or time the way the destructions indicated. TO SET THE TIME YOU PRESSAND HOLD THE TIME SET BUTTON WHILE PRESSING THE HOUR BUTTON REPEATEDLY TO SET THE HOUR, THENREPEATEDLY PRESS THE MINUTE BUTTON TO SET THE MINUTES. FOR THE ALARM, SET PRESS AND HOLD THEAL SET BUTTON THEN REPEATEDLY PRESS HOUR AND MINUTE BUTTONS TO SET ALARM WAKE TIME.THE SLEEP FUNCTION IS SUPPOSE TO ADJUSTABLE BY QUICKLY AND REPEATEDLY PRESSING THE SLEEP BUTTON. I attempted this multiple time and it would not work. The instructions make reference to a lock button.THERE IS NO SUCH BUTTON ON THIS RADIO. ITS AS IF WHOEVER PUT THE INSTRUCTIONS TOGETHERCUT AND PASTED THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR A DIFFERENT RADIO THAN THE DR-920C.

Good all around radio
I have the DR-920-C and also an old Eton M300 and a VITE VT-111. The Tecsun's FM reception, in my experience, is less sensitive than the VT-111. It would not pick up 2 particular stations with either on-board or external antenna that the VT-111 brought in clear and strong. However, for me, the Tecsun far outshines the VITE in both AM and shortwave usefulness. I am not an expert but I use these radios in the north woods of Maine, far back in the mountains and I have the opportunity to try different antenna placement and direction as well as just hand holding the units with their telescopic antennas. The Eton really isn't in the same league as the other two but it's handy when I am closer to stations at home. I love the VITE'S search capability but it lacks the tuning knob that I love on the Tecsun. They're small so I take all three. No real complaints with any of them and for now, the DR-920C is a bit of a favorite. So, almost 4 years after I purchased this radio I have very high praise for it. It's been bullet proof and with a long wire antenna and also a ground it is pulling in stations from incredible distances from the Maine coast, Greece, Turkey, Romania and of course, China. FM and Am have been very good as well.
