144-8125 HP 1/2 Pint Early American Interior Oil Wood Stain

Our 10 year old kitchen table has been used hard despite using placemats and trying to keep liquids and hot dishes away from it. With four kids, we've had thousands of meals and hundreds of school projects and homework assignments done on the table. The varnish had chipped in places and there were stains from markers on it, and it needed refinishing. I decided to try to do it myself and save the money of having it professionally done. I figured even if I did a bad job on it, I could take it to be fixed later.I stripped the old varnish off (using Crown Gel stripper, available at Lowe's), sanded with steel wool then applied Cabot wood stain (the table was originally Golden Oak, but with age it had darkened to Early American). Next I'll seal it with polyurethane, but I'm amazed at how wonderful the table looks! Cabot wood stain is true to the color samples in the store, and very close to the paper example on the can. It applies smoothly and allows for even spreading, and dries completely overnight.I'm a fan of Cabot stains, and encourage anyone with beat up old furniture to try refinishing it themselves before paying someone else to do it or just buying new furniture.
