Newport Vessels X-Series 40lb Thrust Transom Mounted Saltwater Electric Trolling Motor w/LED Battery Indicator (36" Shaft)

Motor ruined our trip. First time using it. Ran in forward for 30 seconds and then stopped. After 10 minutes of moving the throttle back and forth forward started working but reverse stopped and never worked after.Sadly were a few days out of the. return period so I have to seek warranty support. If that requires me having to ship it...I may just throw it away and buy something reliable.When you are on the water you cannot trust an unreliable motor and thus one has failed badly.Update: put in a claim with Newport. They got back to me quickly and sent out a new trolling motor that day. They did the right thing. When I get the new motor I'll review its performance.

I decided to purchase this although I had never heard of this brand of trolling motor. I could not find and negative reviews so I bought one. I've used it several times and like it. I have it mounted on the stern of my 15-foot jon boat and power it with a group 27 battery. I've used it for 4-5 hours of fishing and so far have not killed the battery. Time will tell how well it holds up. I am using it in a combination of salt and freshwater.

Box was torn and taped upon arrival but after initial worries, motor was not damaged. Mounted easily on stern of an older 15' Boston Whaler. Motor pushes boat along quite nicely even at lower speeds. I am confident I could use this motor all day to position boat and move around the shoreline starting with a fully charged marine battery. I did not like the speed difference between the forth and fifth position. Fifth is easily twice as much thrust as forth and a better distribution between speeds would have made this motor better.

I bought this about a month ago. Been fishing with it twice since then. Quiet, has enough power for my 12' rowboat. Cost was low compared to competitors. Cons are the tilt function isn't what I expected. The head moves with the handle, so yes, it tilts, but you can't conveniently tilt it at any time. You need to manually release the mechanism and move the entire head. For the battery indicator leds, I don't think they are very accurate. I was out for 3 hours, mostly trolling, and it still showed 100% on the indicators. So my recommendation is to not trust this function. Charge your battery before any outing.

Excellent little motor. I have mine mounted on a 25ft sailboat and it works great for pushing the boat over a short distance. Like into and out of a harbor, but unless you have a large battery bank don't use for anything over a mile.

I can remember running out of battery after less than an hours back in the day. So, when I decided that my new to me sailboat needed a motor, and I didn't want gas since long periods of time will lapse between uses. So I bought this electric motor and a decent $108 deep cycle battery. After using the motor for about 1/2 hour last weekend, I was surprised and delighted that I still had a full battery when I was done. I can't wait to take this out again, and see just how long I can get out of this motor and my not too expensive battery.

I love the tilt handle, not crazy about the noise. Speed 4 seems to be about 60% and the jump to 5 is huge. The blue battery indicator light will blind you in the dark. I had to put a piece of electrical tape over it. Maybe 3 1/2 stars. Yes you can reverse the head to use it on the bow. Yes with a couple of washers the Kipawa prop will work [55 lb Minn Kota one] on the 55 lb Newport.

All though I can not leave a review on the product,I recieved my trolling motor on Wednesday. Didnt bother with it until Friday after work due to time.. First thing I noticed was how beat up the box was with what I'll call the " butterfly style mounting screws" of the motor hanging out of one side. The motor has lots of scuffs (dont care about that). Looked to be all packaged properly with styrofoam on each end.My issue is that its incomplete. I'm missing all the mounting hardware to mount the prop to the TM. The inside of the prop looks a little beaten up almost like it wasnt on tight enough and was used and returned. I'm going to email Newport vessels and see what they can do for me.Biggest bummer was that I was planning go have my boat in the water all weekend and using the motor!I did put power to the motor and it seems to work as expected.

Really liked it . I was crossing some boats waves and I heard a loud sound like something broke, when I turned around my new trolling motor was gone. Don't know what happened, but I liked it so much for the week I had it that I ordered another.....Hope it don't snap off again....I believe that the Min Kota's have a safety feature that will swing the lower unit up if it is left down or works its way down. I think this company needs to design a similar feature. Just tried the 2nd one I ordered and it was vibrating while using it in the water. Took the propeller off when I got home and noticed the bore was damaged. Newport sent me a new propeller.

Great performance on my 16 foot freighter canoe. I bought a 65Ah battery at Canadian Tire, which let me use the motor for about 2 full hours at full thrust (approx 500lb of load in the canoe, including the canoe itself). I use it for moving from a fishing spot to another. It is very quiet and the 5th speed feels very powerful. On its first use, I did hit a rock on the bottom of the lake (not very far from land) at full thrust and speed, but it did not affect the motor at all. The fin of the bottom the motor casing is very solid and seems to protect the impeller. The battery gauge on the top is very useful.

This motor pushes my 14 foot aluminum with 3 adults with no effort at all. I can't say anything negative about it. Does not use a whole lot of battery power. It reviewed very high all over the place and Amazon is the only place I found it in Canada. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a decent trolling motor. Full Disclosure: the first motor I got lost 2nd reverse gear after 2 days. Replacement came in 4 days and has performed flawlessly. Doesn't affect my opinion of this motor and brand in any way

I put this motor on my 14' inflatable kaboat it it works great! Everything feels very solid and great quality. The power gauge on the top is a very nice feature. Ive used this motor a few times and is very energy efficient, you could go all day with a decent sized battery. The motor came in the factory box and packed very well. Overall the motor exceeded my expectations for the price and I highly recommend this motor to anyone!!

INtex tried to copy this motor, but made a cheap knock off. this is the real deal! great
