Review: Amazing! Highly recommend! - Absolutely love this book! The recipes are not overly complicated - but always impress! The directions are easy to follow and include staple ingredients I almost always have on hand. If you want to bake impressive cakes without all the hassle of trying to make it look like you're on the GBBO - this book is for you! **My copy is a little dirty just from use - it did not arrive like that :) What I REALLY love... - beginning of the book goes into detail about the method of making your cakes, storing your cakes, best equipment to use and the importance of the the ingredients you use. - in the back of the book are the recipes for all the icings, frostings, caramel, whipped toppings, etc. which is great! - every recipe can be made in an 8x8 pan so no need for an entire cabinet full of miscellaneous cake pans - but you are always given baking times if you want to bake the cake in a 9" round & sometimes a loaf pan - equipment needed is also minimal so clean up is always easy. I had a stand mixer and hand mixer, but almost always mix all of these by hand, unless i'm making a buttercream frosting. - the author gives suggestions for flavour variations - my family LOVED the jam swirl cake so for Thanksgiving I followed the recipe for plum & cardamom variation. I couldn't find plum jam so I used apricot jam and it was SUCH a hit.

Delicious and Easy recipes
I have only tried a few recipes but the ones I’ve made are simple and delicious. And best of all made in one mixing bowl. They are small cakes which is really nice. You will not need to continue to buy the tasteless ( or incredibly expensive) baked goods from the grocery store.

Must have for your cookbook collection
This is one of my favorite cookbooks in my entire collection. All the recipes I've tried have been super easy, with easy to obtain ingredients. The pumpkin olive oil cake is so good, so is the coconut lime cake, and the powdered sugar donut cake is one of my favorite cakes of all time. All recipes have converted easily to dairy free and gluten free for me as well. These recipes are great to make with kids too!

One recipe flaw so far!
I loved every recipe I’ve made from this book except one major flaw at the end: the fluffy vanilla frosting recipe. It says to add 1 tsp of lemon juice which made me question… and so when I made it, it became clear that it doesn’t belong there. Hopefully it’s just a typo she forgot to fix?? But it’s a big one. That fluffy vanilla frosting was just curdled goop. So I made it again without the lemon juice and it worked perfectly. I will say that I keep daydreaming about the fudgy chocolate cake recipe in this book after trying it. Yum!

Uncomplicated crowd pleasers
The book is full of unfussy recipes that have become favorites in my household. Nothing is too sweet, and the recipes always work. I’ve made more recipes from both of her books than I’ve probably made from all of my other books combined.

Easy, Delicious and Reasonable-Size Cakes
I heard a great review for this cookbook on the radio and purchased for gifts and one for myself. The cakes are easy to make—no mixer needed. Variations are included for each cake so that you can make it to your taste. I like that these recipes are quick to make and I just use a wire whisk to mix. The cakes are one layer, using a loaf pan or a single 8” or 9” round pan or square pan. Super easy to whip up a cake for dessert anytime. Frosting recipes are in a separate section and the cookbook is divided into sections for types of cakes such as the chocolate section. I just made the Almond Butter Banana Cake which includes almond butter and ripe bananas which made the cake super moist and great for breakfast or any other time. I like the small square hard cover format with photos of the cakes. Really a lovely book that I actually use! Every recipe I have made so far is a winner!

Perfect in every way
Everyone who enjoys baking--especially if you're a busy mom, or just busy in general--needs to buy this book. These recipes are really well designed, coming together quickly (no special equipment required!), being very easy to execute, and tasting delicious. Also, I rarely come across a cook book where nearly every recipe looks appealing to me. So far, I've only made three different cakes from this book, but every one of them has been incredibly delicious (browned butter, pecan, and white chocolate cake (tastes a lot like my favorite donut from when I was a kid), cocoa yogurt cake (to which I added peppermint flavor; and wow! Possibly the best chocolate cake I've ever tasted!), and the coconut lime cake). I love that there are variations offered for each recipe, as well as (optional) frostings and glazes (which so far I have not made). The only thing is that I recommend doubling the recipes to get a good amount that will last for a while, especially if you you're not just baking for yourself. I also prefer to substitute the regular flour for oatmeal flour to make the cakes a little healthier, and I've found that to work extremely well--it gives the cakes a really pleasant, soft texture.

Best cookbook ever?
I have a lot of cookbooks, and this one is my current favorite. It's the best. I have a three year old, and we love to bake out of this book. The recipes are easy, one bowl cakes that in general are not too sweet. I generally do a half recipe in a 5 inch springform cake pan with great success. We've made (in the month or so we've had it): The berry ricotta cake (INCREDIBLE, so moist and delicious I've made it like three times) The brown butter white chocolate pecan (also incredible) An apple walnut one (pictured - delicious, but didn't keep well) The spice cake (slightly spongy texture day 1 but it improves day 2)

I love this book so much! I’ve had it a week and already baked 3 different cakes. I really like how the author offers alternative ingredient and baking pan instructions so you can adapt the recipe if you don’t have what’s called for. I also like the use of grams in the ingredient measurements because it allows for accuracy. Most of the recipes can be made in a single bowl with a whisk making it so easy! I bought 2 copies. One for me and one for my best friend. We are going to attempt to bake every recipe in this book throughout 2024. She bakes with a toddler so having a simple one bowl recipe will be great. I also want to point out that even though the recipes are simple in method they are not simple in flavour. The book has so many interesting and original cake flavours and combinations, some of which I would never have thought of. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to bake a cake with out all the faff of getting out a mixer.

I bought this book because I love the idea of having a cake on the ready each week; cakes imply celebration and happy kids and a house full of people you like and we could probably all use more of that right now. The tone is light and fun and the instructions are detailed and make it super easy to bake a great cake. I've made several cakes and icings so far; the simple chocolate and vanilla cakes are not only perfect as they are, but the author gives you different options for baking pans and flavour combinations. I can't recommend this book enough, definitely for all skill levels in the kitchen, with beautiful pictures to accompany each recipe.

I adore this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a must have book in every kitchen. The simple and no fuss recepies are so delicious that it needs a strong will power to stop yourself baking them all in one go. There have been so much attention to details in this book, the order of ingredients, measurements (Cups vs Grams) and even different pan shapes. And the cakes are absolutely delicious!
