Seems like a pretty well made product. Feels solid in the hand. They do a good job of packaging too including a little instruction manual enclosed for those with limited or no dog walking "skills". lol They also follow-up with an email thanking you for your purchase and more detailed information about walking your dog with the leash. I never realized how scientific and complicated it can be! (More lol)As to its durability, we'll see over time. Judging from the majority of purchasers here, I suspect it will hold up well over time. Plus, it does come with a 10 year warranty. The product is designed in the USA but manufactured in China. The fit and finish overall is good.I might give this 4 Stars or even 5 if it was truly over the top in design and finish but compared to the competition- mainly Flexi, I personally don't think it's as good. Here's why-The finish on the Flexi for large dogs is more compact- probably by 20%, although they weigh about the same or pretty close to it.The Flexi has a larger opening in the handle grip.The comparable Made in Germany Flexi vs. HappyDogz Made in China is surprisingly $2.00 cheaper here on Amazon!A major difference in favor of Flexi aside from being 10% lower in cost is the clip.The clip on the HappyDogz is rather smallish, and the construction not near what the Flexi clip is. See the attached pics. Notice in the one pic the barrel slides one that the HappyDogz one has the little spring exposed whereas the Flexi is soild going back into the barrel. I can tell you too that it has a very strong spring inside.So what's the bottom line here? It's a decent product and will likely provide years of service. It comes with a 10 year warranty and assuming the company is still around for 10 more years, I'm sure they'll stand behind it. As far as the clip goes, if it were to break i suppose you can send it back or have the company send you a replacement. Or just go down to home Depot and for a couple of bucks get a solid replacement upgrade.

I ordered two of these leashes for dogs that are both below the weight limit for this lease. After about a week both stopped locking in (where I could push the button in and take my finger off of it and it would still be locked), and then a little over a month after I received it, the mechanism inside one of the leashes broke and now the button is useless as it does not lock at all. I would avoid this leash as it's proven to be junk.UPDATE- Originally I had rated this as a one star leash because of the reasons listed above. I have modified it to 4 stars for the simple reason that the company has handled this issue better than any company can be expected to. They really took care of me as a customer, so I will be sure to recommend them because even if you have a problem with one of their products, they will fix it. Also, I really do like the styling of the leash, I just happened to get a bad one. I will likely order a replacement leash from them again and give it another try.

Worked well the first month we used it. Our 50lb "puppy" abused it quite well...doesn't stand up to the abuse. Probably not to many dog leashes do. Unfortunately, if you get sand or dirt in the mechanism, it binds and stops working. Such was the case. If you fiddle with the button enough, it will retract. Tried the rinsing, shaking, etc. Expect to replace this one every year...unless you only use it in clean, grassy environments...which we don't.Updated: Contacted by the seller. Thought I should clarify some of my review. Construction of the leash was never an issue, well constructed, comfortable handle, balanced weight. As I told the seller, the problem was it didn't stand up to the heavy use/abuse by our dog...on the beach, in the mud, etc. Even thru all of that, the seller was willing to refund my money! For most people, like I stated, using it in a "normal" environment, it will last and operate well...just not for me.

I held off on writing a review for a while to give it some use first. I use it several times a day and have been for the last couple months and I have to say this leash is great. I have used other retractables in the past that got broken relatively quickly from 2 65 pound black labs. this one is holding up very well. it still retracts very smoothly just as it did the first time it was used. the brake is easy to use and locking it and unlocking it is done with a quick simple movement with your thumb. I like to take my dog running with me. I also like to strap on rollerblades and let them run as much as they want. when they need to stop this leash gives them freedom to walk away 16 feet from me. they love the freedom they have and i love not getting tugged all over the place from using a fixed length leash. I have not had to contact customer service for anytyhing but I have read reviews where they needed to be contacted and they were very fast at resolving the issue. and a 10 year warranty, that is totally worth it! so if you are on the fence about buying this leash I think you will not regret going for it.

Overall I like this leash. It is well constructed, materials are good quality and it works pretty well. The leash is flat nylon webbing material and appears to be durable but it does absorb water if it drags through a puddle or the snow. It is nice that the retraction button can be locked which allows me to leave the wet portion reeled out to dry as necessary. Besides the fact the webbing can get wet the only other minor criticism I have is that it does not rewind quite fast enough. It would be nice to have a little more pressure on the leash so it would reel up faster. If my dog is trotting toward me, the lease ends up dragging on the ground because it is not rewinding quite fast enough (contributes to the previously mentioned wetting of the leash). I ordered the "large" dog leash as I have a 60 Lb. dog. I believe even with a little more tension she could pull the leash out easily and it would rewind faster.
