Good quality kit to keep your blades shaving.
Good quality kit to keep your blades shaving. Good price / value. Properly sized to comfortably work on your blades. Fine enough to achieve high sharpness.

well made no slip backing
my knifes are super sharp now! practice on a knife first, once you get the motion and pressure down, its easy to use and creates a sharp blade.

My knives are like a scalpel now!!!
I bought this Whetstone to give new life to my kitchen knives. This product is easy to use and does an AMAZING job getting your knives sharp. If/when done properly, your knives will be sharper than when you purchased them. Great product. Also, FYI, be sure to go on YouTube for some instructions so that you can watch how it's done. I binged like 10 videos to learn everything I could beforehand, it definitely helps. UPDATE: Like most knife nerds/sharpeners, I have since purchased other whetstones. Although this whetstone combo works well, the 1000 grit is not as coarse as other whetstones that cut faster. The 6000 grit is fantastic. It's actually softer that many 8000 grit stones. My only minor gripe is the 1000 grit, because when compared to other stones, I have to use considerable more pressure and spend more time on the stone to do what other 1000 can do with less time/effort.

Pricing and functionality combo
I wish to have 600grit for quicker process, but 1000 makes a job for kitchen blades, very affordable product! We used to pay more for same stuff 10 years ago

Couldn't get it right
I needed to sharpen my knives really bad. I followed the instructions my knives didn't get what was needed. I put it up on the shelf. Going to see if I can get something or someone to help assist me with it again. Quality, flatness, durability, ease of use and comfortable was good. Just didn't sharpen my knives.

I have a heavy chef's knife for general kitchen duty including dicing meat plus a few smaller knives for peeling, dicing and cutting small jobs. I've bought several electric sharpening machines and a diamond faced sharpening steel over the past few years. They've done the job but none of them get a blade quite as sharp as I would really like. In the past few months I also bought a chinese style cleaver and a filleting knife, both of which were razor sharp when purchased but I don't trust any of my electric sharpeners to bring the blades back as new. I decided a whetstone would be the best bet. so having read the various reviews here and on YouTube, got the impression they mostly work the same and that a 1000/6000 grit is the best mix of coarseness. The main decider for me would the the price and mostly positive reviews from a lot of verified buyers. This product is sold at an attractive price and has a fairly high feedback score but one thing that almost deterred me is there are a number of buyers reviews where the people complained about the length of time it takes to sharpen a blade. I took the chance and ordered anyway. I soaked the stone as instructed, fitted the plastic guide before use just to see what angle it sets but it's just the logical one so I discarded it and don't see any future use for it. I must say I'm baffled as to why it's taking some people so long. I didn't actually time it but my stainless steel cleaver was razor sharp after at most a few minutes just using the 1000 grit side. I alternated sides every 20 seconds or so, and moved the blade across the stone in a circular motion at the correct angle with just a small amount of downward pressure. It couldn't be easier to master. I also did my heavy chef's knife and that too came out perfectly in a very short time, so as far as I'm concerned the stone is an extremely easy and efficient method of sharpening kitchen tools. I have no hesitation in recommending this product.

I love this thing. I'd been struggling with keeping a chef's knife I had sharp, but between a little patience, the angle guide, and actually paying attention to form, I got my 8 inch chef's knife sharper than it has ever been. Since then, this whetstone has breathed new life into all my knives, including my santoku and my slicer, and all my peelers. It's superb, and I'm pretty sure I won't have to think about getting another sharpener for another 20 years.
