Monarch Specialties Computer Desk - Left or Right Facing Corner | White

I wanted to make sure that I left a review, because I could not find ANY reviews for this desk anywhere on the internet. I am glad that I bought this desk. The price I paid to Wayfair was also significantly cheaper than the same desk in a brown color that multiple other vendors wanted. The desk shipped quickly. Additionally, it was very well packaged. The box was wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap as well as packing tape. The box was HUGE but I was able to get it into the house (I am a below-average strength female) on my own. The desk itself was boxed so that the underside of the wood faced outward, so that if there were any scratches, it would not be visible. In fact, there was a gouge in the box which resulted in a dent in the wood on the underside of what ended up being the main desk surface, but it is 100% invisible once assembled and does not effect the structural integrity of the desk, so there was no reason to worry about it. The fact that the desk was so well packaged was very important. If you buy this desk from another source, I would question their shipping methods - if this desk had been shipped just simply in the box and NOT given an additional layer of bubble wrap, I am sure that the desk would not have arrived in such great shape. This desk is very attractive. Worth noting is that this product description calls it a "corner desk". It is actually an L-shaped desk. What I mean by this is that there is no unfinished backside that you need to worry about going against a wall. This desk is in the middle of the room I put it in, and it looks very fine from all sides! Also, my husband put this desk together for me. It took him 3-4 hours, and he did it alone. He mentioned that the instructions were very well written, and although it has an Ikea-style dowel assembly, it came out very sturdy. Normally when he puts furniture together, I hear cursing and grumbling, but he was able to turn the television on and put this desk together without any headaches. Also not listed here is that the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet has a metal rod on each end to hang long files from. Bonus! Overall, I say 5 stars because it is a lovely desk and $315 was a fair price, especially with free shipping. EDIT: I have this desk in white. I noticed that quite a few other people have made comments that they purchased this desk and it arrived in very bad shape. Notice that the "ships from" is different depending on which color desk you get. My desk shipped from Wayfair, it arrived quickly, and it was EXTREMELY well packaged. It appears that the other shipper doesn't do such a great job, but my desk arrived with every possible precaution having been taken to ensure that it arrived in great shape. It is two months later and I am still extremely pleased. Also, let me add - if you are like me and had the great idea that you would want to use white cube-baskets from Ikea in the shelves, let me warn you: they won't fit! Too tall - just barely. I love this desk. There's plenty of space, both in the drawers and in the side bookshelf. It houses all of the materials I need it to, and there's plenty of surface space for not only my monitor, speakers, but also my keyboard and mouse. Since I really dislike keyboard trays, this worked out amazingly well for me. My PC tower actually fits underneath the adjustable desk shelf too - which means more leg room (always a plus). I like the taupe color, because it almost looks like stone. It's a nice change from the other colors on the market. Now, I'll get to the kind of bad part (that doesn't actually detract from the rating for me, but might annoy other people). This desk is heavy, and when it is delivered, there's a chance the box might be damaged. My box was heavily torn and ripped on one side, and our delivery driver made note of it (just in case I needed to dispute something later). After we opened the box fully, I noticed only one part that was broken. This might be a deal breaker to some, but right on top of the instructions it said, "If something in your package is broken, please contact Monarch Specialties directly, and we'll send you a replacement part." I didn't think it would be as easy as it was to get a replacement, but it was. I sent in my order information and a photo of the broken piece, and they shipped me out a new piece. Downside is, I had to wait a week and a half to install my last drawer into the desk. I think that's still great customer service, since they know their desks are heavy and can be damaged in shipping. So, if you want to get this desk, I'd say do it. It's a fantastic desk. Extremely sturdy and it looks great. Just know that you may have to wait for a replacement part or two if yours is damaged in shipping. Fingers crossed that it won't be! I'm glad I didn't have to return my desk just to get one part replaced (because that would have been a waste). So thanks, Monarch, for the great customer service.

My wife owns one of these desks as well, so I had some experience both assembling and using it. Pro: Spacious work area Competent design (not difficult to assemble for the most part) Attractive for an office Easy disassembly for moving (which we had to do with my wife's to a new house) Good quality Cons: Some of the drawer rail instructions can be a bit confusing at first, not terrible. It is an excellent desk for work use, with plenty of space for documents. We also have a Monarch stand Monarch Specialties Dark Taupe Reclaimed-Look 2 Drawer Computer Stand/ Castor we use for our laser printer. Altogether the products are well matched. I would buy them again, but think the manufacturer does need rework it's packaging for mail order deliveries. Her desk arrived completely undamaged, mine had slight damage that did not impact functionality. TL:DR version: It's good and I'd buy it again. I like the color, and the design, in general.
