A comprehensive introduction to Science and Technology Studies
This new edition remains an ideal book for undergraduate study, covering the main areas of Science and Technology Studies. It is easy to read and gives key information about the subject. Sismondo is one of the most influencial authors in STS.

Excellent summary of the field
I gained a Masters in science and technology studies in the mid-1980s. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of a sociological study of a field, science, that claimed that no such study was possible-- "Hey, we're scientists, purest of the pure, and what we do is for truth, justice and the scientific way". Think that British professorial twit Robin Cox. I enjoyed the degree immensely. This book is an easy-to-read survey of the field from its origins, which are not so long ago, to date. If I were doing my Masters today, I would expect this to be the very first book set for reading.

Valuable learning and research tool. Recommend it to anyone interested in sciences or research
This book breaks the boundaries that often separate social and physical sciences. It explains STS and ST&S confusions and explains the historical and philosophical foundations of the discipline. It offers insight to the complex world of interdisciplinary research and suggests understanding for the problems and possibilities of science. I absolutely encourage anyone interested in research to consider this book as a supplement to their reading list.

great
Great to read if you're not immersed in science and want to know what is happening in that world. Read it for class, soc 495.

Excellent Introduction to a Difficult Set of Theories
I have taught Intro to Science and Technology Studies using this book as the main text and supplemented by other selected readings. I find the 10-15 page chapters provide an excellent overview of the topics in this field for the undergraduate level. This book hits all the main points in a very accessible manner. I hope that, in reviewing reviews, potential buyers of this book pay attention to whether a reviewer deals with the intended purpose of the book (to introduce and summarize a field) versus the substance of the material that the book summarizes. In other words, I don't have to like psychoanalytic theory but I'm quite silly if I'm critical of the book that summarizes psychoanalytic theory instead of being critical at Freud et al (i.e. don't shoot the messenger).

Great Introductory Book
A really interesting and informative book for those who wish to understand the basics and background to STS. As STS covers such a wide range of interdisciplinary research, it can be difficult to get to grips with when reading studies or articles alone but this book helps to make sense of what it is and how it emerged as a field.

Bad printing quality
The book is amazing and helped me a lot with understanding STS.I'm only giving it two stars because of the printing quality and the papers are not well it keeps detaching from the book.

Regimenting approaches for thinking about science
This book covers what has been written and discussed about relevant studies on how science works and is applied. It analyses pro and cons of its susceptibility to the frailties of human nature. It can be used for study courses at the university for those who feel obliged to cover all Bases (as they would say in baseball). As a non-student having spent a life in scinénce I found it rather sterile and feel the it would definitely have profited from a lot more well-known examples of what went right and what can go wrong.
