Pflueger Supreme XT Spinning Reel(SUPXTSP35X)

This is my 4th Pflueger reel and my 2nd 'Supreme' reel. My other Supreme is the standard version. I got this to work on both my trout rod (ultra light) and my salmon rod (much stiffer). This size is a perfect balance between size, weight, and sensitivity. I loaded it up with 20lb braid and simply change the leader based on the specific application.The construction is typical Pflueger quality. Solid, well machined, and visually flawless. The colors really make this pop with it being primarily black with orange highlights. The carbon fiber handle is a nice touch and the EVA foam knob is comfortable without being slick if it gets wet or grimy. The bail is exceptionally thick without being heavy giving it a very solid feel. Flipping the bail for casing is easy with zero bend or slop in the mechanism and it clicks nicely into place letting you know you are ready to rock.The thing that really turned me to this specific model of the Supreme was the weight savings. This is VERY light which keeps the balance on my custom trout rod in the middle of the forward grip but it has performance where it counts. The drag is plenty stout for just about any salmon short of a king. First time I hooked up I had the drag set a bit too high and was almost yanked out of the boat when a seal figured my salmon made for a good snack LOL. Other action - forward/reverse, bail set, etc was smooth as glass.Considering the fact that this reel handles everything from 2lb trout to 14lb salmon, I don't figure I'll need to purchase another reel for a long time but when I do, this is the one I'll pick up.

I like this reel because it is light. I also like the softer handle. After using the reel a couple weeks I noticed it wasn't very smooth. Then around day 35 (note that this was just after the 30-day return period to Amazon) the handle started badly sticking. I couldn't fish any jerk baits because you'd have to give too much pressure to get the handle unstuck and cranking again once you stopped cranking. I called Pflueger and they said I could send the reel in for warranty repair, but I didn't want to be without a reel for that much time (yes, my only other reel is an ultralight) and I didn't want to pay for the shipping cost. So, I asked the rep if I could take apart the reel without voiding the warranty and he said yes, since customer service said I could do that. I took apart the reel just down to the major components and found a small hard piece of something inside, see attached pictures. Not sure where that piece came from, nothing else inside seemed broken. I removed the piece and put the reel back together. Works very good now without any sticking. Although the reel is not quite as super smooth as other reviews have mentioned.

Overpriced for an amateur angler.I picked up fishing as a hobby 2 years ago, so maybe it's my inexperience, but I really don't notice a major difference between this and the Pflueger President, which I can buy for a third of the cost.I guess the Supreme XT should last longer based on it's specs, like a sealed carbon drag vs. the stainless steel oil felt drag, and the "better" materials in the Supreme XT reduce the weight from 9.9oz down to 8.0oz for the same sized reel.I tried pairing this with a few different rods and I own, and couldn't get a good balance. So now I need to buy a butt-cap kit to balance this.I think a better rod would improve sensitivity more than a 1.9oz reduction in the reel. I would recommend getting a less expensive reel, like the Pflueger President and spend the extra money on a better rod that balances well with the reel. This is just the opinion of an amateur that has used both products, I'm definitely not a pro.The quality of the Supreme XT is great. It's very smooth and feels well built, solid.

Was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews that the reel would break pretty quick, I don't know what the hell y'all are doing to these reels, but I am a couple hundred casts in on this reel, landed a few bass on it, nothing outrageous in weight yet, but put it on an ugly Stik and I have had zero issues, reels nice and smooth, super lightweight, spins smooth, finger grip is nice and comfortable, and appearance wise I think it looks pretty slick. 👍🏻

Light, fast retrieving reel. The drag is equal to the demands of steelhead and salmon (silver & kings). However, the reel's retrieval quickly became rough, erratic and locked up just one month into the fall season. Clearly not any better, at least durability wise compared to the President model, which is considerably cheaper.

Don't fish as often as I used to, but wanted to replace an old Daiwa reel. I love this Pflueger. Reasonably priced and great reviews elsewhere. Very smooth, quiet action, except when the bail trips. It takes a bit of force to trip it and it is loud when it does. Will be manually tripping the bail. I like that the spool is braid ready, with thin imbedded rubber strips. Love the color and design. I don't think you could go wrong with this reel if you're looking for a mid price one. I'm probably going to get the lighter one as well.

I love these reels, this is the second one I bought and it was way more expensive than the first one I purchased. I suspect it is just the vendor I bought it from because he was the only one carrying it at the time.

I was expecting a silky smooth reel but the action is stiff which surprised me as this a premium reel for pflueger. This happened to me last year on a president reel which I returned for a much better working one. I generally like pfluegers, I have 4 presidents that have been reliable, but now I have two bad ones on the last two orders which tells me it is time to move on. I would recommend readers look at the Diawa BG reels. Even though they are rated for salt, they are as light as the presidents, extremely well made, silky smooth, and well reviewed. I bought one for my heavy rod, but will be getting a 2500 to replace this 35 pflueger on my medium. They are more expensive than a president, but less than this XT model and Amazon is running a good deal on them now.

Is well balanced with my 6 foot 6 fenwick hmg rod. Smooth action, love the feel.

I got introduced to Pflueger reels about 7 years ago and I wont use anything else. Best of the best right here.
