Works great for DT/DP whole house fan!
Most switches found at local hardware stores are triple pull / triple throw, designed for ceiling fans with 3 speeds. Many whole house fans have only 2 speeds. Buying the local one gives you an extra dead pull. No local HW store carried the DP/DT rated for whole house fans. This worked. Would have given 5 stars but thought the thread size was a bit flimsy and should have been thicker so less likely to strip out the plastic threads while putting on the cap. Install was a pain in the rear due to whole house fan already installed and cramped quarters putting in but that was not due to the switch.

That the switch does not come with pigtail wires,
This switch is for two-speed fans where a single pull double throw switch with a normally-off position is required. It is a little different from the single pull triple throw switch that is common on ceiling fans.It does not come with pigtail wires attached but uses spring-loaded wire insertion points to attach wires. I am not a fan of this attachment method. The wires leading to it from the blower motor was not solid core so I had a concern about them making a good connection to the spring-loaded insertion points. I ended up solder wicking the wires so they act as a solid core wire when inserted into the switch. Also, the insertion points are on the sides of the switch. The holes on the back of the switch seem to be for releasing the wire if needed. At first, I tried inserting the wires on the back of the switch into the holes but found it wouldn't reliably capture the wire.Could be a better product if it simply came with pigtail wires attached for use with conventional wire nuts.

This is a 2-speed switch, plus the OFF position. (OFF-ON-ON)
I've had to replace the switch on my whole-house fan several times over the past 15 years. Never thought about the switches, or how they worked, until I installed this one. It puts the previous switches to shame with how smoothly this one operates. Surprisingly, the fan runs faster in both the low and high switch positions, telling me that my previous switches were some how inadequate. Also, the fan runs quieter. The fan gets a lot of use during the warmer months to help keep the house cooled off. Excellent switch.

here's how you do it....
THIS FIXED OUR WHOLE HOUSE FAN- SEEMED LIKE OEM. I know- you're thinking "where are the 3 wires"? Right? Don't worry! This switch was VERY simple to install. Firstly, of course, cut the power to that circuit. Then you'll probably have to drop the louvered fan vent (hold onto those screws!!) Remove the junction box switch. DO NOT cut the wires to the old switch. These 3 wires will merely be pushed into the new switch... Look at your new switch; you'll see an "L", "1" and "2" with wire inlets. The L is always your main power line, generally black. (in my case the only wire from the switch nutted to another in the fan junction box) Look at those same markings on the old switch, write down what color wire goes to "L", "1" and "2". (In my case "1" was black, "2" was red, "L" was also black, again, the only one from the switch nutted to another wire) Insert a very small screwdriver, the type used to fix eyeglasses, into each wire holddown, it will open the holddown allowing you to remove each wire in turn with a tug; they come out very easy once you hit it just right with the screwdriver. Then just insert them exactly as they were into the new switch (remember, you wrote down what color goes with "L", "1" and "2".) If you disconnected the nutted wire, reconnect it now. Now, to get the threaded pullchain collar to fit my box, I had to open the hole just a wee bit with a drill. Replace the junction box cap. Bam- done! IF this tutorial doesn't help you, get your buddy the electrician over.

GARBAGE
I was able to use this once before the pull chain came completely put of the switch itself. Of course it's not made to be taken apart so there is no way to fix it at all. What a complete waste of time and money. Mine could have been defective, but who knows... I would steer clear.

Pull Swich Worked Perfectly
This switch replaced a pull switch on a a 30 year old attic fan. Was super easy to install and looked and worked like the original. Perfect for what I needed.

No wires attached as the description stated.
Bought this as I wanted a switch with the wires. But the ones I received did not have the wires attached. This switch appears to be bigger and more durable than the last one I bought.

Works but not a very good product
This was a good replacement for a two speed pedestal shop fan motor. All of these pull chain switches are now made in China and when compared to old switches made by Eagle, Leviton, etc in USA are not durable. The threaded neck of the switch is all plastic and it is not at all strong. A rough pull on the cord will snap it off where the threaded section joins the body of the switch. Then the switch is useless. The old design was die cast metal and it could last for 20+ years of occasional use. I am sure that getting UL/CSA approvals for the switch was much simpler with the 100% plastic construction but the product is then only a little better than junk. Seems strange that an item like this has a cost to produce of less than 40 cents sells for so much.
